How long from DQ to interview?

My wife and I are in Vietnam, and we’re planning on an early 2022 move to the US. So we’re thinking an interview around November or December.

I’m aware it takes time to get one scheduled, so I’m wondering when we should submit our docs to NVC and get DQ’ed.

My thinking is around August for doc submission, get DQ’ed around Sept-Oct, then get an interview scheduled in Nov/Dec.

Are things moving this quickly at the VN consulate, or do we need to send in our docs sooner?

Timing the process is not possible since Covid is an unknown.  I would not wait.  You have options, but they rely on the visa being issued.  If the visa is issued too soon,  simply travel to the US after the visa is issued, then immediately return to VN to ties up loose ends.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Before COVID and Trump's ban, the NVC had about 75,000 cases waiting for interviews.  Right now, the NVC has 500,000 cases waiting for interviews.

It's unprecedented.  There is no way to guess how long the wait is on any particular case as to when an interview will be scheduled after a case is DQ.

An immigration visa is valid for 6 months after the medical exam.

You're going to have to make your decision with a big unknown.

Thanks guys, I understand it's somewhat of a shot in the dark.

I'll start prepping the paperwork now and collect the necessary stuff from my joint sponsor, and should be able to submit everything around July-August and see what happens from there.
