Filing I-751 and traveling abroad

Hi guys,

I got my conditional green card through marriage (from being an F1 student) and my 90 days period before the 2 year anniversary begins first week of July. I will file I-751 during that week but I had a question. I am traveling out of the country the following month, August and will be out for a month. Do you thing that's a good idea? I'm afraid they will send me a biometrics appointment during august or an RFE or any other correspondence. Based on your experience, will I receive any communication from USCIS a month after filing? Also, am I even allowed to travel abroad once I file? My conditional green card will expire in october (I will be back in the US in September).

Thank you!

you can travel with your expired green card and receipt of i-751 if you want to travel once your conditional GC expires..  your conditional green card expires in july. File i-751 as soon as you can and have receipt and your conditional green card to travel. you can travel any time you want .. no restricitons. Yes if you get biometrics appointment , you have to come back to give your finger prints in US

thanks for the reply. My conditional green card expires in october not july. Does filing i-751 automatically void my current conditional green card?

your green is never void. it just expires.  once the conditional green card expires, you need to carry i-751 receipt that  automatically extended your expiry date by 18 months.
