Sent I-485 Application / What to expect next and timing

All, thanks for all the help here.

 

i had filed I-30 online about a month ago for my parents and finally was able to put together the I-485 packet together (I-864, I-131...). I mailed all the documents on 3/29 and it was received at Chicago lockbox on 3/30.

 

I have not seen a credit card charge yet for the application. Is there a timeline when i can expect to see a charge to indicate that they have started to process the application ? My parents are on B2 and here until July 7. 

 

I understand that they will need to have received a notice as part of the I-485 application so they can legally stay until their application has been processed/travel card has been received.

 

How long do i need to wait to see any activity on the application ? Credit card being charged ? Do i need the receipt for I-485 which would allow my parents to stay beyond their '6 month' period as visitors ?

6-8 weeks seem to be common.
