Thought this one was particularly interesting.  Maybe this is all payback for the entire McCarthy era.  The “thought police” have certainly moved to the Left.

 

8.) McCarthyism is good. Destroying lives and careers for incorrect thoughts saves more lives and careers. Cancel culture and the Twitter Reign of Terror provide needed deterrence.

Now that Americans know they are one wrong word, act or look away from losing their livelihoods, they are more careful and will behave in a more enlightened fashion. The social media guillotine is the humane, scientific tool of the woke.

"cancel culture" doesn't exist. it is just a construct of the right to avoid accountability.

if i choose not to go to support someone like ted nugent, what are you going to do? point a gun to my head and force me to spend my money going to one of his shows?

if i choose not to support any film project by james woods, are you going to force me to go see his movies?

if a company makes a choice to choose someone non controversial for whatever reason because they are thinking the bad publicity is not worth the trouble, what are you going to do? force them to support the unpopular view just so you can "own libs?"

frankly its none of your business how i spend my money, who i support, what businesses i support for any reason i choose. it is also the right for any company to choose who represents their brand. its called a free market, but please continue with the woe is me im so oppressed garbage.

Companies are being forced to promote and contribute to violent Leftist organization for fear of backlash from the Extreme Left.  You may find these groups palatable, but political extremism in any form is abhorrent.

And you think that companies aren't being forced to cater to and tailor their speech in order to not face the wrath of conservative groups and religious organizations and haven't been doing so for years.

Conservative groups by nature don’t really force anything.  Sure there are extreme Right Wing (not really conservative) groups that most conservatives/libertarians call out and receive no blowback on, but try calling out an extreme Leftist organization like BLM, or Antifa, or name any Leftist political identity group and see what happens.

They absolutely do it all the time, and it is no different to what you describe. It's become so commonplace it's nearly hilarious to see the moral hand-wringing, followed by backlash and threats, and the eventual caving of a brand to the fear. I'd say they've even been doing it a lot longer and gave other groups an opportunity to learn how effective it is. There's been recent examples even just in the last month.

You mean groups like Focus on the Family and similars haven't been doing it for decades? Lulz.  

They LOVE to get outraged.  Ads and shows showing families different than theirs, books they feel are unsuitable for students. They campaign to boycott... What are they so afraid of?

After the Second world war, I didn't know Americans would be pro-fascism... what is wrong with being anti fascism?

Precisely. Look at what's happening with Lil Nas X right now. There was a call to boycott Nike even though his sneaker collab was completely unauthorized and Nike now has an injunction against the sale of the shoes. Of course Lil Nas X himself is also a target, with accusations that he's luring children into a life of depravity because Old Town Road was so popular.  Just dumb.

Yep. That's one of the things I was thinking about. Nike basically got pressured by conservative groups and threats of boycotts even though they had nothing to do with it. Nike has never cared one bit about custom content, and they may every well end up losing in court from this little experiment. If they win though it'll create a nightmare with the legality. Meanwhile what the groups want him to do is shut up, sit down, and not use his freedom of speech to make whatever content he wants. Conservative religious groups are the experts on censorship. It's one of the big reasons we have censorship in many aspects of life today. Experts at book and music burning, banning, and effectively destroying careers.

they have been trying to control everything for decades, from what they deem as acceptable music, to acceptable religion, to acceptable definitions of morality, to acceptable artists or education

this is a false equivalence by the way. companies are free to choose to do business with whoever they want. consumers have the right to decide not to financially support that company. no one is forcing the company to do anything other than the benjamins. again, thats called a free market.

Oh remember back in the day when Pepsi decided it'd be great to use one of the biggest artists (and songs at the time) on the planet? I'll let you guess what happened. How much pressure they came under, from what groups, and from one of the most powerful figures in the world, and how quickly they backtracked. Pepsi and the artist survived because they parted ways but, the song still causes terror to this day.

Not sure about you, but I have not been subjected to re-education classes related to policies or thoughts pushed by Focus on the Family (whoever they are).  I suppose they may be outraged, but not much attention is paid to conservative groups.  I do love the Joe Biden/Democrat response to who is Antifa, but have your business destroyed by them and you might think differently.

Same as above, what company have you been a part of that created Re-education classes based on a position pushed by a conservative group?  In all my years working for various medium/large corporations, I cannot remember a single one.  I will acknowledge that conservative groups will try to raise a stink, but I think the Dems/MSM have effectively labeled them as all racist that no one pays attention to them anymore.
