Hello, I have looked around and found some information from 2009 but wondering who can help me with this.

Where is the updated list of what supporting information is needed? The i-134 doesnt call out any specific documents.

The list I have so far is;

- A signed statement from your employer on business letterhead that states the date and nature of your employment, salary paid, and whether the position is temporary or permanent

- A copy of your last U.S. federal income tax return (i am assuming that since my 2020 taxes are being filed now i will use my 2019 tax filing?)

- W2

- Past 3-months of pay-stubs

Any other items that I should provide would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The updated list comes from the instructions for your consulate as requirements vary.  Try the Canadian regional forum

Bank statements for savings, checking, retirement, investment. IRS tax transcripts are better, they proved you filed your taxes while tax returns don't.

The Embassy in Tunis sent us the following in a email with our appointment date and time.

  • We submitted my tax transcript from 2019 (I haven’t completed 2020 yet)
  • My latest YTD paystubs
  • The latest statements from my checking and savings accounts
  • The latest statements from stocks and bonds that I could liquidate within a year without a heavy penalty. So not including 401, 403, CD, and joint property.

The consular didn’t ask any financial-related questions and we received a verbal approval at the end of the interview.

**************************************************

Affidavit of support (Form I-134) completed by the petitioner and bring a copy of the petitioner’s latest tax returns. Please note: U.S. Citizens and U.S. Permanent Residents (green card holders) must report their income yearly, no matter where the income was earned.  If taxes were not filed by the petitioner, please proof of your most recent total annual income + a signed letter explaining why taxes were not filed. If you require a joint sponsor, please provide a copy of the biographic page of the joint sponsor’s U.S. passport or Green Card, the Affidavit of support (Form I-134) and the joint sponsor’s tax documents.
