I filed for my husband in July 2019 and we are waiting for the interview date from the Embassy in Ghana.

I used to work and my income was okay to support the petition. I’m in school now and not working at the moment.

I wanted to know if that will affect him if he goes for the interview?

Thank you.

If your income has changed and is now not meeting the financial guidelines then you will need to get a joint sponsor ...complete a new I864 yourself as primary sponsor.. indicating your present financial situation... have all the joint sponsor paperwork completed.  Ensure your spouse has your updated 864 and the joint sponsor forms and required documents in hand to take to the interview. He should advise the IO that your financial situation has changed and that you are now using a joint sponsor

Yes. They care about what you make today- not 3 years ago. If you don't make the requirement then you will need to find someone willing to joint sponsor. Good luck.

I already sent my financial documents to NVC as the only sponsor. Do I have to file I864 forms again with a joint sponsor to be taken for the interview?

Yes. You need to update your I864 and also obtain a joint sponsor

Joint sponsor will fill out the I 864a form and submit IRS transcripts same as you had to do

If an interview is scheduled ,   the CO will put the case in AP while they wait for the new information on your current income and the forms from a joint sponsor

Unless the joint sponsor is a household member , they must use the I 864 not 864a

Whether you "have to" or not depends on whether the Consular Officer asks about your current employment.  If they do, the answer given must be truthful.  When your spouse truthfully answers that you are no longer employed and are in school, they will ask for new financial documents to include a qualified joint sponsor.  If you have not already submitted those documents, visa issue will be delayed.
