Wow, if this happened to any regular person, the dog would be gone and the lawsuits would incur.  I understand Joe may be immune from a lawsuit while he is in office, but I suppose they could sue Jill Biden.  On a side note, my brother and sister-in-law rescued a dog about four years ago that had a sketchy early life, my wife, my nephew (their grandson) and their daughter-in-law were all nipped at some point by their dog (no blood drawn in any incident), after that they would never allow that dog to be around anyone else for fear of losing him, and being sued or having their homeowners insurance skyrocket.

‘Major’ pain: Biden’s dog involved in 2nd biting incident

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden’s younger dog Major this week was involved in his second biting incident of the month, the White House said Tuesday.

The dog “nipped someone while on a walk” on Monday, said Michael LaRosa, press secretary to first lady Jill Biden, adding that the dog “is still adjusting to his new surroundings.” The individual was seen by the White House Medical Unit “out of an abundance of caution” and returned to work without injury, LaRosa added.

we just adopted a dog a few months ago. A Pitt mix. sweetest most loving docile dog I have ever had. She had been in the no kill pound two years and had been adopted and returned.  All she wants to do is follow us around and be loved. has not even barked but once. Gets along ok with the cat but  does nudge him out of the way for attention

I am all for rescuing animals and in particular dogs and cats, but with that, responsibilities of the pet owners come into play.

The breed of the animal and it's past history all comes into play here. It's hard to expect ANY animal to suddenly adjust to life in the White House. The dog is protective by nature and is in a setting where everything and everyone is scary and threatening. I guarantee to you if the dog wanted to hurt someone it would, so a simple nip is something that can be addressed with time and training. This dog is largely a companion animal for the elder dog, and what they may need to do is bring a human companion in to more closely address situations that can arise. I would not recommend this breed for an elderly couple or someone with a extremely busy/stressful lifestyle, but I understand they must have a soft spot based on the elder dog. Still I don't see this as a problem that can't be addressed, but then again I grew up with a hybrid dog that I am confident would have killed someone defending it's owners (if ya think a little nipping in a stressful situation is bad... ooh boy it can be 1000% worse).

My old fluffball of terror has his humans and his kind of people. Either you're his kind of person or you're not. His small dog syndrome and protectiveness of his space can take over at times, and a nervous person will make the situation worse. He used to be terribly fearful of young men, and he has nipped my husband before when moving him somewhere he doesn't want to be moved. It caused no harm because he has hardly any teeth and this is a stress/fear reaction because of his past. That doesn't mean he doesn't adore my husband (they are best buddies) but in the early days he had to understand that it wasn't a personal thing, the dog had just suffered a lot of trauma in his life and that stays with the animal mentally.

I agree. I love dogs. Haven't had one for a while, but now that the kids are old enough I've been thinking about it.

My sister does rehabilitation with abused dogs and she is fully aware of the risks to herself, especially early on, and she accepts them. She doesn't ever take chances around anyone else. I suppose it's like a lot of other issues we have in society. A lot of the problems come down to the awareness and sense of responsibility of the owner.
