Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), a close ally of former President Trump, is under investigation by the Department of Justice (DOJ) over an alleged sexual relationship he had with a 17-year-old girl, according to The New York Times.

Investigators are examining whether the congressman has violated federal sex trafficking laws by paying for the girl to travel with him, sources told the Times.

The sources said the probe was opened under former Attorney General William Barr in the final months of the Trump administration and that senior DOJ officials in Washington, D.C., were alerted to the existence of the investigation.

The examination of the 38-year-old congressman’s alleged personal relationship is reportedly part of a larger probe into Gaetz’s political ally and former local Florida tax collector Joel Greenberg, who faces charges of sex trafficking a child and providing payment to people, including at least one female minor, in exchange for sex.

Coincidentally, this is another Matt Gaetz-related headline from earlier today, before the investigation news hit:

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) has privately told confidants he's seriously considering not seeking re-election and possibly leaving Congress early for a job at Newsmax, three sources with direct knowledge of the talks tell Axios.

Qanon fails to predict an (alleged) pedophile congressman who is a Trump supporter while imagining a cabal of satanic international elites passing children around with codewords about pizza and pasta as an immutable truth.

I am willing to wait this one out a couple days until everything starts to flush out due to the competing stories going on right now.

Now if he could get Tucker to back up that competing story.

Tucker Carlson says Matt Gaetz interview was ‘one of the weirdest’ he has done

"You and I went to dinner, about two years ago,” he said. “I brought a friend of mine – you’ll remember her. She was actually threatened by the FBI, told that if she wouldn’t cop to the fact that somehow I was involved in some pay-for-play scheme, she should be in trouble.”

Later, Mr Carlson said he did not remember that person or their meeting.

So why do you always have to throw Foxnews into it? You act like all of us on the right just salivate over Fox all the time.

Because the Tucker Carlson interview is all over Twitter at the moment? I watched some of it. I would be FURIOUS if I were Carlson, Gaetz tried to throw him under the bus not once, but twice. Also if you feel moved to say the phrase "child prostitutes" unprovoked in an interview, that's one times too many. Gaetz said it at least twice.

He should have shut up and not gone on Fox or anywhere else. He should have said "let's see where the investigation leads" like the politicians who sweep allegations successfully under the rug (in both parties) do. You do NOT go on national primetime news and say "here's this very convoluted set of things going on and there's extortion from this guy who used to work at the DOJ and my dad is somehow involved and Tucker, remember when you and your wife had dinner with me and a 'friend'?"

This was dumb dumb dumb.

Uh, always and never are not great foundations for discourse, but Tucker Carlson was the venue Gaetz chose, unless I missed an interview.

You remember, that hottie that I brought to dinner you were so smitten by your wife kicked you under the table, she was actually 16, remember?

The undertones of "I got something on you" were super clear to me.

Bravo, Rep. Gaetz. Excellent pre-emptive use of the Chewbacca defense.

If the Chewbacca doesn't fit, you must acquit!
