Hi all,

I just want to say thank you so much for this group for all the help!  My citizenship interview is done and my oath will be next week!  Finally, I can say that the journey is over 😅 Sharing my interview experience to give people an insight on what to expect . Hopefully this will help in reducing stress.

My interview went very smoothly.  Arrived at L.A. office 15 mins early as mentioned on the interview notice. Sat for an hour before being called for the interview. First, she collected my passport, GC and interview notice she made copies then we proceeded in her office. We had a small talk then she informed me that the civic test will start. She asked me:

1. What is the ocean in the east coast?

2. Why the flag has 50 stars?

3. Who is my representative?

4. War between east and west?

5. War fought by US in 1900?

6. What is an amendment?

Then the reading/ writing test.
I read: How many states do we have?

Then I wrote : We have 50 states.

She said I passed the civic test and will proceed to review my n400. My advice is to go over your n400 form before coming for the interview. Then after the yes/ no questions she informed me I was recommended for approval. She then scheduled me for Oath taking that will be next week. Before I go she handed me my appointment for the oath and that’s it.  I’m a US citizen 😀 Yey!!! Thank you guys.

What did you answer?  I’m having trouble coming up with a major war where the USA was a major participant in 1900.

congrats.

However,  you are not a US citizen until you take the  oath and receive your naturalization certificate.

A war the US fought in the 1900s? First Word War, Second World War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, Korea War just to name a few.

Indeed. None of which happened in the year 1900.

Did cross your mind the question was about the 1900s and not the specific year?

No, because the new N-400 test is supposed to be tougher, and I was asking if USCIS was truly asking about specific minor wars the USA fought in the year 1900.

Look at the example question 78 of the  USCIS - Preparing for the Naturalization Test pocket study guide.

They ask me for a war fought in the 1900’s not specifically 1900. My bad 😜

Congratulations! I will also have my N400 in LA on Monday, but I have a pending 1-751 and USCIS did not confirm if this is a combo interview. I will still bring my husband with me. I was hoping you'd get a same day oath taking ceremony.

Current timeline:

July 2019 - filed I-751

August 2020 - filed N400

Sept. 2020 - i-751 status "Case Was Transferred to a New Office". Transferred to NBC.

April 12, 2021 - N400 interview in LA passed (with a pending i-751)

May 20, 2021 - I-751 status changed to Approved and N400 status changed to Oath Will Be Scheduled. 🤩

May 21, 2021 - received a call and email from USCIS Los Angeles with my NOA with my oath schedule.

May 28, 2021 - oath taking schedule in USCIS DTLA office. 😍

Not sure if they do same day oath. I already did my oath taking yesterday , it was scheduled one week after the interview. Goodluck! Make sure to come 15 mins before appointment time as they were turning away people who comes in early. 😬
