The basis of the article references Dr Makary's hypothesis on herd immunity. He's been making rounds recently, mostly conservative publications, but his views.. which have nothing to do with his expertise (he's a good guy btw), are just that.. his views, which is not shared by those at Hopkins that have this expertise. Nor are they shared by others that have experience in the subject either. The author has an important hook to her piece, which is "IF he is correct". That's a big IF, to place your bets on, especially if he has not made his career or knowledge on the actual subject matter. She follows it up with, "several studies suggest he is". But she does not actually reveal those studies, her interpretation of those studies, his interpretation of them, or any pushback on those studies whatsoever. And that is why it is an opinion piece, which is void of any actual helpful facts.

 

Vaccine passports have issues with matters of liberty, which libertarians like me will no doubt have to wrestle over troublesome questions before you'd ever get me to agree. But I would argue there are a million things we do every day that we accept that we must show proof of something for. Private businesses can have their own rules before you enter, and we have the right to go elsewhere. It is doubtful, for instance that you would be able to enter any building stark naked, without being tossed out or arrested.

Oh I like those hypotheticals.. So many things would become an infringement on liberty. Any sort of ID, licenses, training, clothes, passports, vaccination records, qualifications, visas, borders...!

I remember one time we went on a camping trip, and hiking up in some mountains. You had to drive quite a way to get into the state park, but we started seeing signs for ''SLOW: nudist crossing". Not kidding you, some of the property around the park is owned by a nudist colony. We didn't stay long.

Exactly, the author recycled old arguments that support that this virus will "wash right through" or "this is just like the flu" while promoting the effectiveness of the vaccine and how it would be a shame for people of color to be impacted by this invasion of privacy.

As to the whole passport thing for the vaccine, I am pretty indifferent especially if it frees up international travel and eliminates the self-quarantine or testing need, I hear China takes samples from the rear end upon arrival.  But with anything like this, a black market will emerge at some point.

I am kind of like you. A shot record to travel is no biggie to me
