I am seriously confused here. I am definetly going to need a co-sponser, but I read on the USCIS website that they couldn't be grandparents, in-laws, aunts, uncles, etc. Does this mean that only my mom could be my co-sponser? She has a family total of 4 and I have a family total of 4. Does that mean that she would have to make enough to support all 8 people or would her and my stepfather both be co-sponsers?

oops... this should be in the K3 visa section. I can't move or delete it. Sorry.

For K-3, anyone can be a co-sponsor for the I-134 used for the visa it self, later for AOS or CR-1/IR-1 visa the Joint-sponsor (I-864) can also be anyone willing to support the immigrant.

What Is a Joint Sponsor?

If the person who is seeking the immigration of one or more of his or her relatives cannot meet the income requirements, a"joint sponsor" who can meet the requirements may submit a Form I-864 to sponsor all or some of the family members.

A joint sponsor can be any U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident who is at least 18 years old, domiciled in the United States, or its territories or possessions, and willing to be held jointly liable with the petitioner for the support of the intending immigrant. A joint sponsor does not have to be related to the petitioning sponsor or the intending immigrant.

If the first joint sponsor completes Form I-864 for some rather than all the family members, a second qualifying joint sponsor will be required to sponsor the remaining family members. There may be no more than two joint sponsors. A joint sponsor must be able to meet the income requirements for all the persons he or she is sponsoring without combining resources with the petitioning sponsor or a second joints sponsor. Any dependents applying for an immigrant visa or adjustment of status more than six months after immigration of the intending immigrants must be sponsored by the petitioner but may be sponsored by an original joint sponsor or a different joint sponsor.

I-864 instructions.

Mrs. Irish,

If you are writing about sponsorship for a K3 visa I think that you must have mis-read what you saw on the USCIS web site. In any case, the USCIS does not make DOS policy or local policy for the US consulates.

Only the visa applicant(s) need to be sponsored. USC's who are members of the visa applicant's family do not need to be sponsored.

It's up to your mother and stepfather to decide if she alone or if she and your stepfather (using their combined financial resources) will sponsor.
