Hello all,

Hope you have a great day so far. My parents' interview for IR5 at Ho Chi Minh City Embassy is on April 23, 2021. They are however not ready to come to US because of Covid-19 still going on and my brother and his wife are expecting a baby soon and will give birth this November. So my parents want to stay and take care of her until the baby arrives. Also they want to celebrate one more Lunar New Year before coming to US (Feb 2022).

I emailed the embassy about the situation and here is their response:

According to our policy, you may only reschedule your appointment with our office after the date of your initial immigrant visa interview appointment.  Therefore, you may reschedule a new visa interview appointment after April 23, 2021 by following the instructions at: http://bit.ly/rsi-iv.

So I emailed them again and asked does that mean my parents can skip the initial appointment date and reschedule later online. They responded back by saying referring to the above response. That makes me a little confused now since all they saying is I can reschedule after April 23 but does that mean my parents can skip the initial date? Does that count as no show or something? I hope someone has knowledge on this and help me.

Thank you very much.

They should not complete a medical exam since an issued visa will expire within 6 months of the medical exam.  They should not attend the original interview.  They should wait until after April 23rd, then reschedule their appointments per the instructions.
