I can see that for those with electric cars.  Let's make them pay their fair share.

They would never get enough revenue with just a mileage tax on EVs.  What they seem to be saying is they want more EVs, and more efficient internal combustion vehicles, but we will tax the ICE vehicles double (fuel and mileage) and the EVs only on mileage.  At some point, they will add a tax to electricity if EVs ever do really start taking off.

Wondered if they would drop the fuel tax   and just go with a mileage tax.

 

Might as well double tax as many as they can.

Anytime Government imposes a new tax or regulation, theirs always a negative after affect,  I can see a black market for an electronic device that allows the user to alter the odometer reading in the cars computer system, or a disconnect to the drive train, either of which will create distrust and havoc for used car sales... And what happens to low income earners who don't have the money to pay this tax? they'll be driving around with an expired registration and the car they use to commute to work everyday with be impounded..  Government will screw this up just like they have with most everything else.

Its really really hard to cook an odometer now.  Can be done but not super easy. Also the car fax will usually show up with a discrepancy if you have it serviced at most places. Just an interesting  sidebar. The used car market right now is insane. No inventory anywhere. Also a big issue with trucks an SUV's new. Between Corona and the chip issue inventory is ghost like.

 

We had about 80 Tacoma's and 25 Tundras on the lot at the start of Corona. we have 1 Tundra and about 5 Tacoma's

 

we normally have about 100 used we now have about 19.

I can confirm this with a Rams right now as well. I have been scouting some Ram trucks here in the last year and the dealership near me usually has a YUGE supply at all times. I mean the supply is up into the several hundred range (1000+) and now it less than 500 spread around all the types of Ram trucks

I can double confirm   I've been in the market for a Ram Promaster 3500, I've had 3 dealers looking for the last 3 months, one dealer got one in and called me, within 30 minutes after that call it was sold to someone else.
