Hi everyone,

I wanted to know if anyone went through Atlanta for their POE. If so, what was it like? How were you treated? What should we expect? and lastly - how did you maneuver Hartsfield-Jackson airport. It is so huge I am afraid my husband is going to get lost coming out.

Also, How long did it take for your social security card to arrive in the mail?

Simone24,

My wife will be coming to Atlanta on Saturday. I have talked to the Immigration officials at the ATlanta airport and they told me that the best time to come through would be 8-9pm. They told me not to come through during the day or we would be waiting for up to 4 hours to be processed. The airport is complex but they have people that can help him through. Are you picking him up in Atlanta or is he catching another flight? That will really make the difference.

I am picking him up in Atlanta. His flight arrives at 8:05pm. How long will the wait be if your wife arrives between 8 and 9?

howdy,

I went through Atlanta and everything was fine. He will have to go throught the normal line. There they will give him a secondary folder *for k3 it was a green one) and I had to take this to the office marked "secondary green folders".

There I was the only one (flight came in during day around 2 p.m.)

and everything was fine. no harrasment or anything.

Also, getting around in the airport isn't all that hard. he simply has to follow the signs to his terminal and gate. One tip though: he should take the train to get to another terminal. i thought "well, it can't be that far, I'll just walk". Dude, I regretted that!!

Good luck to both of you

This is only my own experience...BUT Stewart's POE was in LA so this prob wouldn't be the same.

He made it through LA immigration and customs at 11 a.m. in under an hour. (actually about 30 mins really.)

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

I went thru Atlanta on K-1 and took forever - only just made my connection. Arrived around 3pm, stood in long line and then took for secondary processing where i sat for a long time again.

Once it was my turn it was straight forward. Glad I had booked my connecting flight for 4 hours after landing.

I will be going through ATL when i finally get my Visa. So thanks for all the info. I have been through ATL 5 times now as a visitor though and the process can be kind of confusing what with the train and all but once you are past immigration it is fine really. I hope the actual visa POE is as straight forward. I had never thought that the wait might be longer then. I mean i will be on a cr1 so would that be so tough? I assumed it would just mean going to a different line and maybe getting a friendlier less suspicious face(am i crazy?).

I don't know if you are crazy or not :)

BUT my husband just went through POE for a CR-1 visa and he said it was easy and they were nice. Don't know how atlanta is. He just had to sign some stuff and give fingerprints and that was it...got his passport stamped and here he is!

Good luck when you do come through.

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

A visa POE is slightly different. You still line up as usual but when you get to the desk you are sent to a different room for extra screening, prints etc. Harmless but just takes a bit longer.

Congrats Simone! I don't know about Atlanta as the POE...but I fly out of Atlanta (and back in) when I travel to see Joel. As an airport, they're ok. Hope his experience is a pleasant one :)

So, do you transit through a PFI-equipped airport (such as Dorval) on the Canada side?

I've had two experiences (one as a TN-1, other as a "plastic-not-yet-issued" GC holder) with Atlanta as POE. Not difficult at all (at least as GC holder; the earlier time on TN-1, I ran into an officer who was NOT NAFTA-cognisant). Due to being the world's busiest airport, Atlanta may be nasty (no experience with this) as combination POE/connexion.
