How long to get SSN for wife? And apparently SSA/DMV/BMV has problems verifying immigration status w/ DHS?

Hey guys -

 

We just sent in my wife's newly-obtained green card, passport, I-94, original marriage certificate with me, plus photocopies of green card/marriage certificate/all pages of passport. This packet should arrive at our local SSA office by Friday (the mail is tracked).

How long does it usually take to get a SSN and card issued and her passport/green card both returned in the mail?

 

Also, I've read that the SSA is having problems with the DHS not responding to inquiries about applicants' immigration statuses through the SAVE system. How widespread is this problem?

Depends on the SSA office really. In Chula Vista we secured an appointment a week after we called. Then it took one week from appointment date to card issuance, then another week from card issue to actual delivery. So a total of 3 weeks in our case. I still used my maiden name though when we applied, to match the I94 record.

You are SO lucky. I was told it would take 30-45 business days to receive her card in the mail, AFTER we get her original documents mailed back to us. -_-
