I-485 Status Updated to Rejected

We had something happen to us that is very unusual today.  Back in August 2020 we got an RFE for the I-944 which I resubmitted.  Our case status was set to "RFE Received" for the longest time.   Now our case status is showing as the follows, 

 

"My Case Was Rejected Because it Was Improperly Filed.
In August 2020, we rejected your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence because it was not filed correctly. We mailed your case back to you, including any supporting materials and fee"

 

Is this something to be worried about? Any other I-944 RFE filers run into the same issue? We already replied to the RFE back in August.  What's also interesting is on the same day we received an interview date for our EAD.

What's even more interesting is the EADs don't get interviews

I-944s are being discarded as far as I am concerned because even though I filed that in February, they omitted a receipt for I-944, but all the other forms. So this might be why your case status looks like it did before you sent that RFE about I944. Maybe call the USCIS number for some answers.. good luck

Exactly! That is what I heard too that the I-944 are being discarded. Many thanks!

There's no receipt for the I-944, like there's no receipt for the 864. They're supporting documents, not applications.

IIRC, USCIS was rejecting applications that did not properly file I-944 back in Aug/September 2020, just after the injunction for the new public grounds rule was stayed.  

 

@praisejourney, per your case status your I-485 was rejected and fee returned.  Check to see if USCIS cashed your payment.  Also, call USCIS to inquire about it.

The automated USCICS phone line doesn't not let you talk to a representative. It just hangs up on you if you ask for customer support.  Yeap exactl! In August 2020 was when I got the RFE which I replied to.  Why would they just now tell me about my form being mailed back in August 2020 and then the next day send me a Bio Metrics appointment date?  This is like the exact status I had before the "RFE Received" status message.

The did send me an RFE requesting the I-944 back in August. They said if the I-944 was not filed at that time that the application would be null and void basically.
