Hi,

Trying to understand proof of domicile as we begin filing out the AOS section at the NVC processing stage. My wife (US citizen) currently lives with me in Northern Ireland (applicant). She moved here with me on a fiancee visa January 2019, and we got married May of that year. She is only on a temporary visa, as the goal was always to move back to the states, but wanted to experience living in another country, and I had a house here etc. She has a bank account in the states which she transfers money to and from frequently, she still has voter registration etc. Would she be providing proof of domicile, or proof that she is planning on returning to the US (this is where I don't quite understand the distinction)? We are looking to avoid her moving back to the states, as we have no financial reason to do so, as we have a joint sponsor that more than sufficiently satisfies the requirements.

Thanks,

Keith

She has proof of domicile based on maintaining her bank account and voter registration. Her driver license may still be valid too. The good news is London isn’t going to ask for any of that at the interview so don’t lose sleep worrying about it.

For further clarity on that. She has her drivers license, along with her voter's registration in WA. Though her bank account and permanent address is in IL. And we plan to move to Nashville, TN. Would it help to move voter's registration, permanent address to TN? Or should they be good as is?

Presumably prior to the interview she will have more definite things to show, where you will live applying for jobs and as has been mentioned UK tends to be more relaxed about this.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

You’re trying to jump through unnecessary hoops. They aren’t going to put you through any kind of grilling over domicile or anything else at a London interview. Take what you have. It show ties to the US were maintained because the move to the UK was only meant to be temporary.  How can you move a permanent address to Tennessee when you don’t even live there yet? What makes sometching a permanent address?

Promise to come back and update this thread. Your entire interview with the officer will be about 5 minutes standing at a counter/glass window like at the post office. It’s really short unless you have some dodgy case that screams fraud.

My wife just got approved and I have been with her outside the US for almost 2 years.  I provided a friends address together with my rent-a-storage receipts in addition to some of the things you mentioned (driver's licence, bank accounts - still have my t-mobile account).  So,  as has been mentioned already, you already have enough to show ties to the US.
