Working and not paying taxes?

I don't know his tax situation...just trying to get him sorted out with his SSN. He will sort it out once he can.

His tax situation is directly related to his immigration status, which must be sorted out prior to sorting out his SSN

How long has he been in the US?

A friend is here in the US working and applied for his SSN in October. They aren't able to produce a SSN due to his immigration status. He has to contact USCIS to sort this out. I have tried calling to no avail. Anyone been in this situation or can help?? TIA!

Presumably at least since October.

August

So it took him 2 months just to apply and another 6 to follow up? I presume he has made a significant investment to get the visa, yet he seems to be treating his status here in a rather cavalier fashion. Is he only worried now because of tax return time, or what? Did he enter on an E2 or did he change status from something else? If the latter that could be the issue.

Currently there is an issue with SSA and being able to verify people with DHS in order to issue a SS card. It also appears to be an issue with some DMVs as well. Basically the agency (SSA or DMV) sends the case to DHS and when you check the SAVE system it shows as 'response sent' yet the agency does not actually get any response back. Its primarily being discussed in threads related to those who entered on K visas or those with pending AOS's attempting to get a SS card or initial or renewed DLs.

As far as I know it is a 'known issue' but has not been officially announced as a 'known issue' so there is no ETA on getting it fixed. I would suggest filing a complaint/request for assistance with the Ombudsman and/or your congressman. The more people that report the issue the quicker they will acknowledge it and implement a fix. You can also email your complaint/inquiry to SAVE.help@uscis.dhs.gov  (https://www.uscis.gov/save/about-save/save-verification-process

have you tried emailing  SAVE.help@uscis.dhs.gov

Thanks for your response! We finally got it sorted! It was an issue on Social Securities side. I had to call e-verify/SAVE with SS on the phone to get it sorted out.
