Inflation has already started to go up haven't you noticed? I heard this quick tip on how to find out. Look at something on Amazon that is fairly common and put it into your cart. Then come back a couple weeks later to see what the price is now

That doesn't necessarily mean that the increase in price is a leading indicator of inflation. It could just as easily be plain old supply and demand of a particular product. Not every seller charges the same for fairly common items on Amazon, and sometimes you put an item in your cart from one seller that goes up after a couple of weeks because the seller's supply has gone down in the interim.

Prices can be more elastic on Amazon, in my experience, than places like Nordstrom, etc. because Amazon is a marketplace whereas Nordstrom is not. Friends who have pets have told me that some types of pet food are hard to come by, even now, and that prices have gone through the roof on Amazon and Walmart.com (another marketplace), even if prices in brick and mortar stores have not. Of course the problem is finding a brick and mortar store that has the food in the first place.

Our current rate of inflation is less than 2%, which is healthy. Most of the increase right now is related to the hike in gas prices, which are themselves related to an increase in demand as the pandemic appears to be slowing down, and which coincides with a drop in production. Again, supply and demand.

More specifically, I used to pay $9 a box for 9mm. Now it’s between 30-40. Are you saying that was Trumps fault since he was President when it happened?

If you really believe that the inflation rate is 2% then I have some oceanfront property to sell you in Idaho. I believe that the real figure is much more than 2%. Since I have to help shop for a family of 6 I get well acquainted with the price of food and other tangible items. The price of many things have gone up across the board in the last 4-6 months.

Yes, he was not as strong on 2A as I would have liked him to be

Funny, I found prices rising on Amazon and just about everywhere else a year or so ago.

I understand that but as I said in the last 4-6 months it has gotten more noticeable

Regular, normal people had a voice, and an ear, and a buffer between them and the Deep State.

Taxes were lowered.

The 0bummercare penalty was neutralized.

Gasoline prices fell.

Inflation was not a concerning factor.

Israel was tangibly supported.

Illegals were (finally) prevented from entering freely, and CBP agents' morale improved.

The intellectual dishonesty of the mainstream media was exposed (largely through the Tweets).

The coronavirus vaccines were produced in unbelievable time.

The most awesome SOTU address of all time was delivered.

Lowest unemployment rates in recent history or ever for various demographics.

These are just tip-of-the-forebrain (vs. "occasional-cortex") observations.

1. Not worth a comment.

2Now did us regular people have a voice or an ear? I’m a regular common folk.

3.I don’t buy the taxes raised or lowered at all, no matter who has done it. It amounts to very little one way or the other, and every time taxes are cut, we pay more somewhere else, whether at the local, state or federal level. $20 a week isn’t going to make me or break me.

4. I wasn’t affected, so I’m not going to comment.

5. Gasoline prices actually rose when Trump took office, I started a thread about it and the Trump supporters claimed the President had nothing to do with gas prices. When Covid hit, gasoline and oil tanked.

6. Personally, I think inflation became an issue for some when Covid hit.

7. He did give solid support to Israel. I think the US has always given Israel strong support.

8. He did take a strong stand on illegal immigration and I agree with that. I just wish he would have made E- Verify an issue and fought to have it made mandatory. But that would hurt his  business pals. Funny how the right always complains about the Dems on the illegal issue but keep their mouths shut when it benefits them.

9. That’s nonsense. He’s the one who complained about the media and everyone and everything else that didn’t worship him. He turned on those closest to him, not the other way around. His use of Twitter proved him to be the fool he was. He cares for no one but himself.

9. But I thought the virus wasn’t real? Why a vaccine fo a little cold?

10. APlease.

10. 1

Good find, although the article states that the plant shutdown was planned from 2010, so Obama was only in office fo a year or so at that point. I’m going to have to blame this one on Bush.

The core inflation rate over the last 12 months was 1.7%. That includes everything except food and oil based products. Most of the volatility we have seen has been in those 2 areas. I think there are still supply issues with many grocery items and oil is just being oil. A lot of the things I buy online have been trending down over the last few months but a lot of it had gone up earlier in the pandemic.

A sustained core inflation rate less than 2% could indicate deflation and possibly a recession is in the cards so I don't like to see that either. I think part of that is that demand has been lower in many areas because of Covid also. A lot of people are sitting on those stimulus checks and extra funds just in case. Some things have gone way up too. I got hit hard on a new bike and a home gym purchase though.

It's not too bad reading on a PC, but it was kind of funny reading it on my iPhone earlier. I thought you had been drinking.

It’s beyond annoying. I was trying to respond point by point, but somewhere in there where I can’t see the text or what I’m typing, some of the quote was accidentally erased. So most of what I wrote makes no sense. The site is beyond horrendous on the iPad. I usually make one or two sentence replies because anything more is too much work.

Drinking? It would take a hit of acid to make a reply like I did. Now if it was Nature Boy..........

Also, how was your life better under Trump than it was under Obama? And how is it deteriorating under Biden?

Discuss.

There does seem to be a boon for the Mexican cartels/coyotes under Biden in a short period of time.

Not yet. At some point they will have to. It will become a political issue. The question is will it be too late by then.

I have always been on board with fiscal responsibility. That doesn't mean you can't run a deficit when the situation requires one. What it does mean you have to put it back, even if you have to make tough choices in order to do so. I think that's one of the big Keynesian principles really. Or the biblical granary example. You can't just do the easy half.

Just to add, I have no problem with Trump or Biden running a deficit when we are in the middle of a pandemic and economic disaster. We don't need to whine about deficit spending when we need to do it, but we should make it an issue when we have a great economic period and they can't come up with a balanced budget or a surplus.

Well, Old Joe's infrastructure Bill right now estimated to be $3 trillion is coming down the pipe.  I am not sure there is any administration in history that has or will have spent this much in such a short time.  Like I said, any tax increase the Democrats pass, will just go to more spending.
