Just checking, how much time I will have as I have an international travel 2 days after the interview(April2021). At Newark, NJ office, after the interview, can I request them that I will take oath after the travel? Because once I take oath, I need to wait for passport and visa for traveling to my country. Thanks in advance.

I believe you can request an emergency appointment with your local state office and get your passport in 3 days as long as you show them your booked ticket and good explanation. Can you pls share your timeline? When did you file?

How long do you want to travel for? Usually they will just schedule you for the next ceremony, I have not heard of any USCIS office taking individual timing requests into account for scheduling. You can request a rescheduled date for the oath but I think you can only do that twice (check on that) and after that the application is considered abandoned and you have to start all over again. So if you are traveling for a few weeks it probably won’t be a problem, if it is more like months it could be.

He is traveling 2 days after interview ... needs his oath first to get the emergency appointment... even if it is still just 3 days (I don’t think that is the case for anything other than true emergencies which this won’t be if planned ahead, normal expedited these days is around 3 weeks) the timing doesn’t work

Newark, NJ Oath is the same day. You pass the interview they will tell you to sit and wait until everyone goes through the interviews and then you go one floor up and take an Oath. A friend of my just had his citizenship interview in Newark, NJ and his Oath was couple hours later. It's been this way for years now.

Do they not give an option of a later ceremony? I know other offices who offer same day but it is not compulsory and you can get scheduled later if you prefer.

To my knowledge I have never heard of anyone rescheduling Oath at Newark, NJ. Most likely an option to reschedule exists but because they are so busy in Newark office that it might take months for your Oath, so 99.9% of people go ahead with same day Oath.

Yes I’m sure most people would happily do same day but I can’t imagine they force you to. I also doubt it will be a few months to wait if they are normally doing same day and having oaths every day, there will always be spaces coming up, because not everyone who interviews is immediately approved.  It’s different to the offices that only schedule a couple of times a month when yes I can see it could take months for a reschedule. Hopefully OP gives feedback /update after the interview.

Hey OP! Did you end up successfully scheduling your oath for after your travels? I'm in the same position now and trying to figure out what my options are. Thanks!
