Sooo this might be a dumb question, but this was something I realized late.

Me and my fiancee have been dating online for 3 years. The problem is, the entire relationship is online based with video and voice calls, digital gifts and money being sent back and forth and so on. In July, it will be our FIRST in person meeting in her county (Ecuador). Now TECHNICALLY this should qualify as there were no specifications on how many times we should meet, only that we meet at least once within 2 years of filing. Would our "how we met" be the online meeting or when we met in person? And would this lack of physical contact make anything automatically suspicious or have us denied?

Nothing technical about it.  The requirement is literally one face to face meeting within the previous two years.

YMMV

Ok that's good. Thanks. I had to make sure because the US always has some hidden rules on everything we do lol.

When dealing with immigration,  read the instructions carefully,  interpret them literally.  Do not add or subtract words or punctuation.  Pay special attention to conjunctions.

YMMV

greetings and salutations,

My fiance and I are also in an online relationsip and have been for 5.5 years. I jad travelled to see him first ten another 3 years went by (so that would have put us outside of the two year meeting requirement). He then came to visit me and we filed our I-129F on the day after he went home. In our evidence for the 129F I made sure to include twitter TOS (thats how we met) for IMBRA to show it was not a paid service or arrainged through a marriage broker, loads of pictures from my visit (even though those technically were not valid for establishing the two year meeting requirement (they were used to show longevity IMO), customs forms of sent gifts via the postal service, screen shots of whatsapp convos where i even redacted some pet names and such, skype log screens to show the duration of the calls and days (we skyped all the time), a letter from my sister, who is also a military veteran and now small business owner as to the validity of our relationship (she met him on both our trips),  a brief timeline of how we met. I used visastutor, im not shilling for them but it was so very helpful for the layout out of information. All the information I provided was secondary and on it's own won't amount to a hill of beans without meeting the two year meeting, both parties free to marry, and financially able to provide for him. Im happy report they accepted our petiton and while covid knocked us down for a year his is flying to the US on April 6th. Inbox me if you have more questions I would be happy to help anyway I can. Good Luck to you!!

What about couples who haven't been able to meet because of COVID?

I've met my fiance several times now, the last time was December 2018. We filed for K1 Visa on February 2020.

We were supposed to meet April 2020, but COVID happened and we haven't been able to. At the time of filling the application, we were still within the two years requirement, but now we no longer are and we have no way to meet at the moment because my country isn't allowing foreigners in.

Do they take this into account?

You're not required to meet after submitting the petition. That aside, there is a way to meet - in a 3rd country that would allow both of you in. That's what my fiancé and I did.
