those how are going thru AOS, were you asked to take a TB skin test? is it required now or something that depends on the mood of the adjudicator? just wondering if we're going to get an RFE for it.

Updates on the Medical Examination of Aliens (Refugees and Immigrants)

Update: Required Evaluation by Civil Surgeons for Tuberculosis (TB)

Posted March 9, 2007

Tuberculin skin test (TST) is required for all applicants 2 years of age or older.

The Technical Instructions for the Medical Examination of Aliens in the United States, June 1991 provided by the Division of Global Migration and Quarantine of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) state that all applicants 2 years of age or older are required to have a tuberculin skin test (TST) to determine whether the applicant is infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB). For applicants with a skin test reaction of 5 mm or greater, a chest radiograph is required.

since Manila does chest X- ray as part of medical, would it mean TB skin test is less likely to be asked for?

tb skin test is required when applying for citizenship according to my sister who lives in the US for 20 years now. but maybe there is a change now because i heard others had it during AOS time. according to my sister, almost all filipinos are positive of TB when having that skin test because of the vaccination we had when we were children and the doctors there knew about that so after the skin test will be another chest x-ray test.

Civil Surgeons are just following the new guidelines (and since CDC and the US got scared of the case of the Multi-Drug Resistant TB case that flew from US to Europe then back to US, they are just being too careful). But we just have to be aware that being Pinays/Pinoys we will more likely to be "positive" for the TB skin test because of the BCG we had and the "exposure" we had in our Country. Keep your CXR plates (if POE did not get it from you), because Civil Surgeon will be requesting another CXR exam after TB skin test turns out to be "positive". Have the Civil Surgeon (or Radiologist) do a comparison exam with your old CXR plates (from SLEC) and the new one so they will know that you're still "negative" despite the "positive TB Skin test". But if they find new findings from the old and the new then that means you probably contacted a new infection (or a reactivation because of a new exposure) and will need to be treated for the PTB.

you are right vsmtghdy!!! when my sister applied for her US citizenship she was required to have the tb skin test and it turned out to be positive so the doctor requested her to have an x-ray and thanks GOD the x-ray proved negative. the doctor told her that almost filipinos are positive of tb in the skin test exam because of the vaccination we had when we were a child that is why they always had to request a chest x-ray after.
