Actually, you may be right indirectly(not just COVID ref). The updated passports may have a better machine readability and reduced faking options. I always prefer to be the latest so that I dont drown when everyone is forced to be the latest after few years.. I can be ugly but I am young and latest.. 🙂

Even though it's ugly, i would much prefer having the hard material for the bio page like Russian and Czech passports have. It's so much more sensible. That way the page won't rip/fall apart if for some reason it gets torn or damaged.

They started issuing, but the printer facility is random. You might or might not get one at this time.

Good news, my husband for some reason really wants the old overly patriotic one. So I hope he gets the old one! It seems the newer one is more toned down and less colorful, "America!" themed.

So far I’ve only read about one person who posted on Reddit saying he got the new passport but he didn’t detail anything or post proof of it. I can’t seem to find that post either.

This person on Reddit said he got the next-gen passport and posted pics, too. Other redditors are trying to get them to find out their locator number but apparently this person knows nothing about the process.

He said his locator number is 62, which doesn't appear on any office list that I've seen.

I received one today :) like it more than old style tbh
