My POE was Newark on May 23rd. I still haven't received any paperwork and I was wondering how long I should wait?

Also, who do you contact when you haven't heard anything?

01-01-2002 - Moved to NYC on J-1 Student Visa.

30-10-2002 - Met Katie in NYC.

01-02-2003 - I return to Scotland.

2002 /2004 - Back and forth UK/USA (many times!)

30-10-2004 - Proposed to Katie. YES!!!

03-02-2005 - Married in Glasgow.

01-03-2005 - Katie returns to US to file UK visa application.

29-03-2005 - UK visa issued!!

06-04-2005 - Katie comes home to Scotland.

11-04-2005 - Filed I-130 DCF London Embassy

14-04-2005 - DCF rejected. Must file through a US SC.

02-06-2005 - Filed I-130 TSC

13-06-2005 - Receipt notice from CSC

28-12-2005 - Received email notification, I-130 approved 21-12-05!!

09-01-2006 - Case received by NVC, case number assigned.

15-11-2006 - NVC complete case and forward to Embassy in London.

19-01-2007 - Interview scheduled for Feb 28th.

06-02-2007 - Medical in London

28-02-2007 - Visa Interview - APPROVED!!!

02-03-2007 - Visa in hand.

23-05-2007 - Enter USA through Newark (EWR)

If you got an I-551 stamp at the POE, your passport acts like a temp Green-card allowing work and travel, you should visit SSA office an apply for SSN, they will see the I-551 stamp and issue a number.

Lastly schedule an Info Pass appointment about the green-card.

Yes, go to the local Social Security Office and apply for the SSN ..like I did :thumbs:

01/17/2007 Faxed the checklist to the Immigrant Visa Unit in Frankfurt

03/29/2007 Got letter from USCIS to provide evidence that our marriage is bona fide

04/02/2007 Sent to USCIS lots of evidence

05/03/2007 I have an unofficial "PETITION APPROVED" ...waiting for confirmation from Consulate

05/07/2007 Received email from USCIS ROME confirming that our petition was approved (why Rome? because we complained to the District Office Rome about the Sub-Office Frankfurt..it took too long for our petition to be approved)...now waiting for the interview letter from the Consulate

05/18/2007 E-mail from IV Frankfurt, our interview was scheduled for May 29th

05/19/2007 Packet 4 in the mail: ja ja ja interview letter

05/29/2007 Interview at 7.30 a.m. APPROVED Thank you, God!

06/01/2007 Visa arrived !

06/03/2007 Mayday on the plane POE Cincinnati

Living in Maryland

06/21/2007 Welcome Notice from USCIS

06/29/2007 Applied for SSN at the local Office

07/07/2007 Green Card arrived

07/09/2007 Another 2 Welcome Letters from USCIS...God, they really love me! :D

07/20/2007 Social Security Card arrived

Is the I-551 stamp the blue stamp with the date and then IR-1 written in pen?

Just some info from experience. Your immigration officer probably dropped the ball like ours did. Even if you have the stamp in your passport, if you haven't been put in the system as far as the immigration side, the social security office can't do anything. We tried to do this and she said she can't do anything until immigration does their part. Sorry!!! We are heading to the USCIS tomorrow to see what the hell happened to us.

DH arrived in USA to live with me for good! 6/3/07

Filing for removal of conditions by 5/29/09

Hey i just found this on another page. If you are going to the SS office, print out this page and bring it with you. If they say they can't issue you a SSN because you are not in the immigration system, show them this printout, which says your stamp in the passport is enough. I wish I would have found this webpage before we went and were rejected.

Hi there again....

we went to the local USCIS office to see why my husband hasn't received anything yet and isn't even in the system yet. Well, the most horrible person I have ever met (i.e. immigration officer) told us that his paperwork was still being processed in the Texas Service center and it can take up to 8 weeks to process someone and to put them in the system. SO don't worry if you haven't received anything yet. I would say to make a USCIS meeting at your 2 month mark.
