Greetings,

I haven't started the immigration process yet, but trying to accumulate information from travel.state.org, US Consulate in Germany, and here at visajourney. My question is that the advice from the US Consulate in Germany is a bit different that on travel.state.org in terms of options to submit the I-130 petition. A brief background, is that I am currently married to a German citizen for over 2 years, so I will file the IR1 option.

The US Consulate states, that my only option is to submit the petition to the Dallas Lockbox via mail. https://de.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/family-based-immigration/immigrant-visa-petitions/

The advice from travel.state.org states I can either submit the petition by mail or online. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-1-submit-a-petition/filing-petitions-outside-the-us.html

The 3rd option described here at visajourney, is that I can file a DCF with the Consulate if I qualify. Now, I am not a U.S. Military service member or I don't believe I have an extreme case, so I don't want to begin the process incorrectly.

Is there anyone with recent experience that could share their insights? Maybe with experience as well with these options with the consulate in Frankfurt?

Thank you and best regards,

Coffee2Go

You can't submit directly to the consulate unless they approve the acceptance of the petition in ADVANCE.

Would you suggest then, I follow the advice from the U.S. Consulate site in Germany or from travel.state.gov? If my only option per the U.S. Consulate in Germany is t submit via mail to the Dallas Lockbox, then I would do that. But is there any assistance the Consulate could give if I either call them directly or send a contact form request on their website?

State.gov is the most current info.   You can choose mail to Texas or file online

If you have a case for DCF it is a much quicker option

DCF used to apply to every consulate, then it was limited to only the posts with USCIS offices and other posts if you had extraordinary circumstances (sudden job transfer etc), then only if you have extraordinary circumstances.

We did DCF one time, it was quick, painless, and easy.  They accepted the petition, looked it over at the counter, and approved it on the spot, we got the packet to start the visa processing a week or two later.

I didnt contact the immigrant section, I contacted Citizen Services.  My petition, my family.  They directed me to what I needed to do and helped me set up the appointment.  Filed at the consulate, interviewed at the embassy.

Unless you can show “extraordinary circumstances” and there is a list I believe, your options are either the lockbox or online.

IF you do have a good reason for DCF?  It’s really quick.
