Good morning,

I currently live in the uk, but I am an italian citizen. We're about to start the process, but I might go back to Italy in a few months. Should I just go for the consulate there or go for the one in the county I currently live in? Can it be changed if I move or can I just fly for the interview and have it there even if I'm not a resident anymore? Thank you

You will have to interview in a country where you reside and have a valid residency in (not just as a visitor or tourist). It can be changed to Italy later on but you can’t fly to UK to have an interview if you no longer reside there.

to add, they automatically send the petition to the country you put as a current address in the petition. They don’t look at the question about which consulate you want to interview at.

Will that make me lose my place in queue? When I asked the consulate they told me I could choose either. But they contradict themselves, too. Really confusing. In that case I'd just go for the Italian one where whatever happens I'm still going to be a citizen

It will delay you a bit, yes. It took us almost 2 weeks for NVC to change the consulate and give us a new case number.

I assume you put UK as your current physical address. That’s where they will send it to so it is unavoidable that you will have to go through change of consulates later on. They said you could do either because they assumed you’ll have valid UK residency.

I haven't put anything yet. We're about to start it but I can still change it

Ok I’ll rephrase. I assume you will put your UK address as the current physical address if you’re planning to send the petition soon, unless you move to Italy before sending the petition in. You can’t put an Italian address as your current address if you live in the UK.

I see. Thank you!
