We've filed the I-485 and are waiting for the bio-metric appointment and I'm looking to the taxes for 2020.

She did a stay in the US before on a student/work visa and received a SSN and card that time. The immigration officers took it when she left (this was years ago), however is this SSN still valid? As in when we try to get one issued this time it will be the same?

And can we use this for tax filing purposes this year and not have to deal with the ITIN process?

Thank you in advance!

Yes, use the SSN. Also claim her Recovery Rebate credit (aka stimulus) of up to $1800: Line 30 "Recovery rebate credit. See instructions."

Thank you all!

Another question:

Is it possible to receive her stimulus check from this year as well? I mean the $1400 check.

I receive mine last month, can we get hers by requesting directly or are we stuck waiting until tax time next year for the credit?

Cannot request the 3rd amount (i.e. $1400) as part of 2020 refund but it might be issued separately a few weeks after getting the 2020 refund. If not issued by the end of 2021 request it during the next tax season.
