Hi All,

My wife moved here near end of Dec 2020. We got married in Jan 8th, 2021. So i was told that i cannot file jointly with my wife on 2020. So i went ahead and file as single.

My question is will my wife get the 3rd stimulus check as a tax credit when we file jointly in 2021?

No. She did not work and file taxes from last year so she is not eligible. Not only that, it does not seem like she is even a permanent resident yet.

We are in the process of filing her AOS application. I am asking if in 2021, we will be filing jointly, will we be getting our 3rd stimulus then?

Yes, in the form of a tax credit. When doing taxes next year, your wife will definitely be a resident alien for tax purposes. See the Substantial Presence test: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/substantial-presence-test It's still too early for 2021 version of 1040 form but see Page 2 of the 2020 version as an example: Line 30 "Recovery rebate credit. See instructions."

"Work" is not at all required to get the stimulus. OP's wife doesn't qualify for 2020 stimulus amounts but may qualify for 2021 stimulus amounts depending on 2021 income level.
