I-693 frustration for K1 AOS - need advice

Hi all,

My K-1 visa fiancee (wife) needs her I-693 filled out. She has a nearly complete DS-3025 and she had her exam and X-ray done in country of origin prior to the K-1 interview. They also did blood tests (but I am not totally sure for what other than STD). Her exam was last December.

I am calling around the area looking for a civil surgeon to complete my wife's I-693 and I am finding the following:

1. USCIS list of doctors is way out of date and some phone numbers aren't even in service.

2. Some who do exist have no idea what I am talking about in various forms ("what is DS-3025?", "we don't have surgeons here")

3. Some want to do a blank $400+ exam regardless what was done before.

I found two clinics that seem semi-competent, i.e. I emailed them the DS-3025 but they still want to do blood work for QFT (tuberculoses blood test), which I believe is unnecessary. Plus they want to do the medical exam, which I also believe to be unnecessary. Am I wrong? Can someone help me phrase my request correctly to these folks? I thought this would be way easier than it's turning out to be.

My understanding is that she would need literally two things: Tdap (shows due on DS-3025) and regular influenza shot. Everything else has code A and B.

Thank you for the responses.

Did she deny to get vaccinated in her home country or she got waivers for those 2?

1. Don't delay filing for AOS because of that. The medical/vaccination can be sent at any time up until the interview date. So if you're waiting for that to apply for AOS, forget about it. You can do it when you receive the letter for the interview or any time before that.

2. A new medical medical isn't required. So the civil surgeon here in US can only fill out the vaccination part of the form.

3. If she got waivers for those vaccines, she might not need to take them here at all. As long as the doctor marked that she voluntarily completed the vaccination requirements.

She denied them due to the fact that it would delay her interview which was literally scheduled on the last day before Christmas. It was very hectic to get everything done in time.
with all the travel bans and lawsuits we had to go through, she did the minimum required to “pass”. So we had no problems with getting needed vaccines here. I was just confused by the insistence of all clinics that the exam is 100% needed. We just can’t seem to escape that.

It's difficult to find a civil surgeon that will just " Transcribe" the vaccinations from your current form onto the DS-3025. I have heard of some success stories, but most want to do the full exam to get extra Money out of you ( Welcome to healthcare in the US). When you call around tell them you have all the vaccinations completed, and you just need the doctor to transcribe them onto the right form( DS-3025). Call around still, and even if you have to travel to another nearby state it may be worth it to avoid the whole exam again. They usually only charge around 100 dollars to do the transcribing, so it is less than the full medical. You just to have to find someone willing to only make 100 dollars instead of 400.

Here on a K1? Need married and a Certificate in hand within a few hours? I'm here to help. Come to Vegas and I'll marry you Vegas style!!   Visa Journey members are always FREE for my services. And btw, we are not delaying her AOS, we are just getting married in a few days. I just want to get it all done at once. 👍

My suggestion is to forget about that now. Get married and file for AOS. If you get your 693 done now and your interview takes 2 years to come, you will need to get a new 693 signed because it's only valid for 2 years.

Take this time to search for doctors that will only do the vaccination section, you can look at another city as well, and when you find one, you can still wait sometime to get it done.

That’s how they do it here. I came with K1 and had to do 100% of all exams in US again and pay a full doctor fee. That doesn’t mean that she will have to take the vaccines again, but you probably won’t find a doctor that will just transcribe the form and sign, because there are several legal responsibilities involved. Just go for it and accept that is part of the process. And by the way... that is just the beginning of the AOS puzzle. I wouldn’t spend so much energy on that... believe me... save your energy for the AOS challenges.

I went through https://www.easyime.com/browsebystate - which was nice as it showed prices based on what I need done. I registered, they called me back, and I'm seeing a civil surgeon on Thursday (who's on the approved USCIS list) for $285 including bloodwork.

For vaccines, you can get both Tdap and flu done at CVS - so I would recommend doing those before and bringing proof to the civil surgeon appointment.

I second this. I suggested it to a few friends

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.
