Good Evening Visa Journey.

I have a question and I am so certain this has been answered so many times before.

What do you guys think is the best route and WHY to bring family over.  I am referring to Parents and Siblings.

I am still a Legal Permanent Resident, and I know I would want to bring my family over once I am a Citizen.

Please advise what is the best route? also provide on average, the timeframes.

I noticed recently that siblings were added or may have always been there but I do recall it being mentioned that this would change with the Biden administration?

There is only one process.

YMMV

You file I130s for them

parents usually approximately a year

siblings for most countries 15 years or so , probably longer for those filing now - different type of category to parents

See the first section on family based green cards here https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/green-card-eligibility-categories

I figured that I would wait until I am a US Citizen to file for just my parents and then have them file for my siblings as the best route to take.

Can you confirm then as all of my siblings are unmarried and over 21 if that is allowed and then would it therefore have the same timeframe as an immediate family then?

Well, you have to wait till you are a citizen to sponsor any of them. Yes if your siblings are unmarried your parents can sponsor them while they are green card holder, but no it won’t be the same time frame as an immediate relative, more like 6-7 years. Green card holders cannot sponsor married children, only citizens can do that. The wait for that is almost as long as a sibling visa.

whoaaaaaaaaa...

So whether I file for my unmarried siblings  (as a US Citizen) or my parents as greencard holders file for their unmarried children over 21 it would have the same time frame to wait for 6-7 years????

If that is the case then when I file for my parents I should just file for them also.

Note that for siblings it could be 20+ years.

Thus you filing for parent and then parent starting F2B process is somewhat faster. The caveat is that for F2B your siblings must remain unmarried until either the parent naturalizes (so that subsequent changes go from F2B to F1 to F3) or entering the US with the F2B.

No. I said before siblings are around 15 years. If your parents become citizens and file for married children, that is almost as long as siblings. Having a backup sibling petition isn’t a bad idea anyway example in case they get married before your parents complete sponsorship or become citizens.

Timeline

Here it is:

1. Apply for Citizenship, Once approved then you may file into two different ways.

      A. You may file for your parents. It only took 6 months, from initial filing to her interview. (Philippines) I guess this time it will take longer due to this pandemic or some changes, Also check visabulletin to see the approximate time per country. Once, your mom arrives here in the USA, her green card and SSS # will be mailed 9 to 12 days upon arrival. If you click the box provided in the DS-260 form. This may take a little longer at this time. Then your mom now may apply for your siblings as a green card holder. It took 10 years for my siblings. Again the approval was within a month, but the waiting for the visa availablity per country is considered. Philippines will take approximately 10 to 12 years F2B route and both must remain unmarried. OR

     B. You may apply for your siblings. Philippine takes 20 to 24 years. The approval is fast its just the waiting for the visa availability takes forever. I have my cousin in Texas who filed for his siblings. Last year they finally got their welcome letters and submitted everything to NVC. It took exactly 25 years up to this point. And because of pandemic no interview letters yet.

note: if you are serious start gathering documents that wil not expire.

Goodluck, NG
