I would if I didn't know that the cat had done it. As it is I try to keep my food and drink away from the cats. The wife threw out a sandwich the other day after she caught our male cat on the counter patting it (he was in his litter box minutes earlier).

Generally I prefer not to go a$$ to mouth, especially where food is concerned.

I love my cats, but I won't eat/drink anything that they have gotten into. I don't even like when dogs try to lick me. You don't know where that tongue's been. You can watch them licking themselves in not nice places for hours and you have no idea if they were doing that right before taking a slurp of your drink/food. Not to mention, my parents have a dog who eats poop so I definitely would never share anything with him.

eeeeeyyyuck.

I like cats, but no, never! The idea is even more revolting if we were talking about a dog.

No problem with it, but I'm in the minority

What can I say, I grew up with pets, and my doesn't go out (dog always supervised), we're just a little family and maybe we share a little too much. I'm not wormy and it's never made me sick, so I just don't have an issue with it. Now, if it was the dog, or if it was someone else's cat...

You know what your petting when you pet a cat? Cat spit!

But my cat is so soft and shiny!

BT

If I cause offense it is not on purpose, think about that before you take offense. If you feel offended, consider that maybe I'm not talking about you and maybe I accidentally stumbled onto a sore area and do not know. Thank you.

From same:

Cat scratch disease is caused by Bartonella henselae. The disease is spread through contact with an infected cat (a bite or scratch), or contact with cat saliva on broken skin or the white of the eye.

A cat drinking out of your glass will not mean you contract this disease. The saliva from the cat would break down immediately in the water and dissipate, rendering it ineffective - even if you do have a cut or sore in your mouth. Plus the water is more than likely at a lesser temperature to the cat's mouth. Most organisms have a preferred temperature to thrive at.

I think the odds of contracting this through contaminated drinking water are millions to one. You've a higher chance of being knocked over by a polka dotted bus driving backwards to Timbuctoo on a Thursday evening. :P

*shrug* No real problem with it here either, so I guess I am in the minority too. I try to prevent it if I can, but if it's only a quick lick before I catch him then I am not too bothered. If he buries his face in my glass or puts his paw in there, I will probably refresh.

Though I don't like it when dogs lick my face or when dog owners basically let their dogs french kiss them. So I guess I am a bit inconsitent.

My cats have a bad habit of stealing my water... I bought a waterbottle to sabotage their efforts, but it was more trouble than it was worth! If I actually SEE them drink out of my glass I'll tip it out and pour a new one but I'm sure they do it when my back is turned too, or when I'm asleep at night and the glass is sitting on the table in case I get thirsty - I just don't know about it!

It was pointless trying to stop them, so I gave them a waterglass of their very own and keep it topped up with nice cold filtered water so that that they can drink it whenever they want! (my mother thinks its gross that I wash the cats glasses with our regular dishes - I think she's just plain paranoid!)

Oh well I am a proud member on the minority!!

Always had cats and they dont go outside either. Me and my old cat had a ritual. Everytime I was pouring a glass a milk he would wait for me and follow me where ever I would go and take one little sip of it. I know milk isnt good for them, but never got sick and I it was more like a treat. He was also always waiting sitting down on the side of the bathroom's sink and I would fill up the little plastic glass. One day my stepfather caught the cat and said he has been wondering why the glass was always full of water in the sink and thought it was because it was leaking  So from that day I made sure I emptied the glass when my kitty was done ;)

Anyways. I would not let them lick all my food, but a little lick in my milk or water has never hurt me.

:P
