We just received the AP for my wife, which is great considering we only waited for 2 months for it. We planned to another wedding party back in our hometown in China in June. Originally my wife planned to go there in early May to do the party planning, etc. and come back with me in Mid-June.

Here's the thing we are afraid: what if the AOS interview appt. comes at a time while she's China between May and June? Considering we filed for AOS at the end of January, and the case status online is saying it takes 90-180 days (3-6 months) for this kind of case, so there is a real possibility it may fall in May or June. What kind of advance notice do people usually get for AOS interview date? Days? Weeks?

Should the worst thing (also a good thing depending on how you look at it) happen, I guess we have no choice but to cut her trip short. What would you do in our shoes?

Thanks,

Michael

1) Get travel insurance in case you have to cancel your plane tickets.

2) Try to see anyone else from your office and whether or not they received the interviews in this period. They seem to like issuing them two months in advance, roughly. It sounds like they're issuing the May ones now.

3) Try to see if you can move the wedding stuff closer to April? :) It's unlikely they will issue you an interview for the end of April (I say this 'cause my interview is at the end of April and I got the notice in February; several others did as well, I think and those who recently received notices have gotten them for end of May or early June).

4) Maybe it might be a smarter policy to wait?

If it were me: I would hope for the best and deal with it when I get an appointment. After all, you may very well not get an appt during the time she's gone. I took a quick look at the Chicago timelines being reported on here and it looks like some people get transferred to CSC and approved without interview, while others are taking 9-10 months to get to interview.

If I do get an appt while she's gone, I would see if she could come back for it. Otherwise, I would reschedule the interview as a last resort. I would reschedule it in person by making an infopass appointment.

Just one question, how would we know which Center is handling our I-485 case? We cannot tell from the USCIS online status check. If it is any clue, both our AP and EAD are sent from National Benefits Center, yet NBC's processing times doesn't have I-485 case type???

The Chicago Office is the closest one to us, shall we assume Chicago is the office working on our I-485, if so, it looks like they got a serious backlog (Nov'04). If it's that bad, maybe we are worrying for nothing here.

One can only hope....Mine was sent to CSC about a month ago. I'm hoping for one of those "no interview" approvals.

I'm from Chicago and we're going through the Chicago office. I long ago gave up on the posting of the district office to demonstrate what sort of applications they're processing because I saw it slide backwards in time (from December 2004 to November 2004). >_<;

Our application was sent in for July and we're coming up on an interview on 27 April. I imagine as you're K1, it'll probably go faster.

26 January 2005 - Entered US as visitor from Canada.
