Forgot to update Selective Service address....is it a problem?

Hello everyone,

 

My husband and I have had to move multiple times since living together in the US. We updated his address with Selective Service 2 times, but the last time we moved, we forgot to update the address. Therefore, we don't have the "Registration Acknowledgement" card/letter with the address at the previous place we lived. Is this going to be a problem? Do they ask to see all of the Selective Service registration letters, or just the most recent one?

 

Please let me know as now we're worried about it. It just completely slipped our minds last time we moved as it was a stressful time for us. I feel really bad about it. We will update our current address ASAP and hope that the new letter arrives in time for his interview.

 

Edit: I just realized on the website it says it could take up to 30 days to get the new registration. We also forgot to update when we moved to our current place. Thus, I'm not sure we will get the new registration card in time...has anyone ever been in this situation and was it a problem? Will we get an RFE?

 

To clarify: we are missing 1 address change registration and we no longer live there now, so that will be impossible to get. We forgot to update the current address where we are within the 10 days, we did it now but it says it can take 30 days to get it in the mail, so not sure it will arrive in time for the interview. 🤦‍♀️

He's 24 right now, so still falls within the requirement to update address within 10 days of moving since he's under 26 from what I understand. It just completely slipped our minds.

You could bring a confirmation email, or a printout of the site saying that it’s now updated. In this case I think your best bet is to be up front about forgetting *if* they ask and show whatever proof you have at the moment. Another possibility is to login to the USCIS site and if possible attach a new document once you have it. (Not sure if it’s an option but I’m just brainstorming).

 

I saw your post and had a mini heart attack because I also haven’t changed the address, but I’m 30 now so I saw on the site that if you’re <26 you must update it.

Yup, this is our plan. We just went online and changed it and actually it basically provided a PDF with the new registration and address that looks exactly like the physical copy they send in the mail, so awesome! We don't need to wait for it to arrive via mail. So, the only issue now is missing that one at our previous address where we forgot to update it. If they ask about it, he'll just be honest and say that he forgot to change it that one time. We have all the others. I'll let everyone know what happens at the interview.

 Yeah, my husband is still quite young...I think VJ doesn't see too many husbands under 26 doing citizenship via marriage so it's rare. 😆

Mine has the address from 9 years ago and i wasn`t even asked by the IO at the interview.
