Hawaii is a State, and makes an excellent POE, you can then take a vacation there and then take a domestic flight from there to the mainland.

Guam is a territory, and may do Deferred inspection and is office based through Honolulu, but can be a bit more complex for further travel to the mainland. It is not listed on the ports page at CBP.GOV territories like Puerto Rico, and US Virgin Islands are. Guam may not act as a POE and all flights from there to the USA will be treated as international, and you would then go through the POE on the mainland, or Hawaii.

Hawai`i is her endpoint. Once she gets to Honolulu, she has a 25 min. flight to Maui. My thinking is Guam may be smaller and less of a hassle.

Again they may defer inspection in Guam, and make her first POE in Hawaii anyway, just be prepared for that.

Our POE was Honolulu for K1, it was real easy. I went to the citizen's line (Not Visitors line) and he told us to go to a different desk where there was no waiting.

The guy at this desk opened our sealed packet and looked through the papers for a while, then he called us over to the desk.

He asked "Where are you going ?" and then he took fingerprint and photo of her and that was it. Probably less than 5 minutes at that desk once we were called over. He stamped some things and wrote some info down. That was it.

We kept our vaccination record and CD from our medical, He didn't ask for them.

It was very easy from what I expected at POE. :)

Mhay went through Guam for her POE and Honolulu for her customs. She said they were really helpful and it was pretty quick. In guam they did her interview in tagalog so she was pretty comfortable there. Either place you cant go wrong. The only reason Mhay did both places is it was on her way to Alaska. She didnt say anything about them taking her xray either...but maybe that is if you go to Honolulu straight.
