Are there any Certified Acceptance Agents or Acceptance agents in Morocco that will submit form W7 for my husband to get an ITIN?    If not, to which agency should my husband go to get a certified copy of his passport?  This is for tax purposes and not USCIS purposes.  The IRS requires the original passport or a certified copy from the issuing agency as proof when applying for an ITIN.

This is from the IRS website:

What is the difference between a "certified" and a "notarized" document?
A certified document is one that the original issuing agency provides and certifies as an exact copy of the original document and contains an official stamped seal from the Agency. These documents will be accepted. A notarized document is one that the taxpayer provides to a public notary who bears witness to the signing of the official document and affixes a seal assuring that the document is legitimate. These documents will not be accepted for ITIN applications. Note there are some applicants who are exempt from this change.

Thank you in advance!

The offices in Casa that do the translations are cetrified and can certify the English translation/ same office you will be using to certify all his documents for the CR1 process. he needs to send both the Arabic and the English translation

BTW  at this time get him to do a POA (again both in Arabic and English)  to allow you to sign the 1040 in his name and do any other banking transactions. etc

Thanks JeanneAdil for that information but it says that the copy has to be certified by the original agency that issued it.  It's very specific about that.  Also it does not require a translation of the passport for the purposes of completing the W7 to get the ITIN but it says that you might be required later to provide one.  I guess I am asking which agency of the government issues the passports in Morocco because it is this agency who must provide the certified copy accoring to the directions:

 2. You must submit original documents, or certified copies of these documents from the issuing agency, that support the information provided on Form W-7. A certified copy of a document is one that the original issuing agency provides and certifies as an exact copy of the original document and contains an official stamped seal from the agency.

so,  you submit an original birth certificate (and the English translation) and get the local clerk's office to copy his National ID and certify it (as they are the agency that issues it ) and has photo of him which satisfies the need for a paper with a photo ID / or if he has a photo driving license ,  use that as it is also local .  you are not going to get the passport office to do this so unless he wants to send original passport (which would be kept by IRS !!!!!), you need an original marriage license (and trust me they know the difference as original paper size is different) with the embossed seal and one and 2 of the others from above list.

BTW Rabat will issue as many originals as needed for marriage and you need one for immigration purposes (u can now send copy with petition but at interview ,  they will want original)  and one for your own records

Just get originals / i refer to the English translations as translators are certified and licensed to operate

Ok thanks again, and when you wanted to include your husband on your taxes and he got the copies that you mentioned above, did he scan them and send them by email or he sent them by postal service (snail mail)?
