I am an US citizen married to a chilean. We recently filed the I-130 and we are waiting for a response. 

We have been living in Chile for the last year and a half and I am about to return to the states to get a job for proof that I can support my spouse when he goes to the states. 

We have read it can take up to 7 months to get the I-130 approved.

Is there any way he can either come visit on a tourist visa or someway to get him to the states while we wait for approval? 

 

We are just starting this process so I'm still not clear on everything. 

I will be grateful for any information or tips for this process!

1.  There is a lot more to the process than just approval of an I-130.  The spousal visa process, prior to Covid, was 12-18 months on average.  It is probably closer to 2 years or longer now.

2.  Short visits to the US during the process are allowed....as long as he has the proper travel and entry documents.  He also must convince the CBP officers at the border that he will return to home country at the end of the visit.  He cannot live in the US until he has the spousal visa.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Then he can wait until he gets his Chilean passport or apply for a B.

Sounds like getting the Passport and using the VWP will be best.
