Hi folks, I heard that in recent months or couple of years, USCIS tends to separate the husband and wife during the 485 interviews. while I remember this used to be rare several years ago. Can you guys share your impression about the recent cases?

Still rare

YMMV

Not true at all.  That is called a stokes interview, and only occurs if the officer has reason to suspect fraud.

We went to the interview last week, and the IO only interviewed my wife. It was over in like 10 minutes.

What was the reason given?  Covid?

I don't know. The IO came out and told me to wait outside with my kid without giving us any reasons. He only allowed my wife and her interpreter to come with him.

Most offices are set up for two interviewees.  Four in a room would be difficult

YMMV

I'm wondering about this too.  I see some interview posts where the immigrant spouse was asked all the questions.  Would I be told to sit there and shut up?  Do I even need to go?  I don't see us getting an interview in the immediate future but right now I'm out of the country.  Would they freak out if I wasn't there or could the interview delayed (not a good option) until I'm able to attend?

My wife & I had the AOS interview last week. The officer went through the I-130 with me (the US citizen), I-485 questions with her, and asked us a few questions about our "story". Both of us answered the questions, filling in for each other as needed. The officer seemed ok with this. It took about half an hour. We had a fourth person in the room, a young officer, who was training. The case was approved a few days later and my wife received her green card today.
