I believe they're closed Christmas Eve (24, Friday), but I'm unsure if they're closed through January 1st. I've heard they are, but that might've been a misunderstanding somewhere. Can anyone clarify?

I’m unsure about USCIS specifically, but I work in local government and we also get federally holiday time off. So the 24th and 31st should be fed holidays they have off and depending on their administration they might also have off the 23rd like we do (as well as half of the 22nd). Other government offices are open the week between Xmas and New Years, so I hope they are as well! More delays would be even more emotionally draining, especially at this time of year!

Federal offices are only closed on federal holidays. In December, that only means Christmas Day, 12/25. Since 12/25 falls on a Saturday this year, then it will be observed on Friday, 12/24. The next federal holiday is New Year’s Day, so since 01/01 also falls on a Saturday, then it will be observed on Friday, December 31. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve are not federal holidays, nor are the days in between.

State and local government is slightly different as employees also get state holidays off, if any. There is also a bit more of discretion regarding what days state/local agency management gives their employees off. USCIS is a federal agency, and during my years working in a field where I often communicated with USCIS, they were never closed on days beyond federally recognized holidays. Unless something has changed, they should really only have 12/24 and 12/31 off this month. Of course, staff is likely taking personal time off, which would mean less staff working in the next few weeks, thus potentially slower progress. Of course, it’s not like it has not been slow already, lol.

Oh wow, that's awesome - I'll be sure to let others know! So, then, only the 24th and 31st are non-working days this month, meaning there's 13 more processing days in December? I booked a trip to visit my fiancee yesterday thinking there was 0 shot I'd hear anything before end of the year... I mean, a March 17 NOA1 is still borderline for that I guess, but that's nice to know :) Thanks!

That is how it SHOULD be and although things change often, I honestly do not see it being any different this year, but I could be wrong lol. Enjoy your trip with your fiancée! I am slightly jealous (in a good way) as I am unable to travel right now due to work. :( But yes, I hope that March continues to see improved progress. 🤞🏼

March 3rd NOA 1 and just got NOA 2 today! So nice to see the words "Approved". I hope everyone else here gets good news before the holidays!

Congratulations! There was at least one March 4 filer with an approval as well. Looks like a very slow day coming out of USCIS though, so hopefully it's just the Monday blues.

This is just the generic email that they send to people when they submit an out of normal processing times inquiry. Basically they're just saying keep waiting and not providing a timeframe for when the petition will be reviewed. I got the same one.
