My wife's AP is finally approved and arrived in the mail today, it took just under 2 months to get hers. Now we can start planning for our trip back in June...

In case you were wondering, we did NOT list the reason to apply for AP in our I-131 application as it was filed together with I-485. We saw several people in this site didn't and still got their AP, so we followed their examples.

On the AP itself (form I-512L), just above the check box for "Approved", it says:

"Each parole period shall not exceed one year from the date of parole at the port-of-entry."

All in lower case, no bold face or underline.

What does this sentence mean? At first we thought it means the person uses AP can spend up to a year abroad before returning to the US on the AP, then I thought that's too good to be true, any ideas?

10/25/04: Sent I-129F original submission (Nebraska SC)

8/1/05: K-1 visa approved!

12/3/05: My honey and I entered through Chicago O'Hare together. She is finally home with me!

I-485 AOS

12/21/05: Got married

12/22/05: Applied for SSN, had to do manual verification, 6-8 wks:(; completed I-693 vaccination supplement w/ local civial surgeon

1/09/06: Got SSN card in mail, this is fast!

1/20/06: Sent AOS, EAD and AP package to Chicago Lockbox

1/31/06: Received NOA1's for AOS, EAD & AP

2/3/06: Biometric appt letter arrived today (wow! that's fast!), scheduled for Wed. 2/22/06

2/22/06: Biometric done, but found out we had the wrong DOB filled out on her I-485, cannot be corrected at the time because her case isn't in the "system" yet. This is stressful.

2/25/06: I-485 touched

3/6/06: Infopass Appt in downtown Chicago to resolve the DOB issue. Had to send a letter to the processing center.

3/24/06: AP approved and sent in mail!

3/27/06: EAD touched.

3/28/06: EAD approved online

3/29/06: AP received in mail

4/29/06: AOS NOA2 received -- interview date June 28 2006. Online status shows still in process.

6/28/06: AOS INTERVIEW in downtown Chicago Sucess! Passport got stamped and Green Card is on its way!

7/8/06: Green Card arrived

I-751 Remove Condition

4/28/08: Sent I-751 package to NSC

4/30/08: NOA1 date

5/12/08: 1st NOA for biometric appt on 5/28/08

5/16/08: Another NOA for biometric appt on 6/5/08, we are confused

I haven't received my AP, but I'm pretty sure that's what it means.

I'd take that to mean you can be out of country for up to 1 year.

I'm sure the POE officer will tell ya ;)

Or someone else one here who has been through it.

Congrats and let's hope they are on a roll!

congratulations!

i had no idea one could send apply for AP with the AOS ! is this common?

they are both sent to the closest district office, correct?

any additional information would be greatly appreciated. i am sending out my AOS really soon.

K1 visa

K1 Visa process took about 1 year, got married on January 13, 2006.

Got my green card on October 5, 2006.

Removal of Conditions

September 15, 2008: I-751 package sent

November 1, 2008: Received NOA

Januar 13, 2009: Biometrics appointment in Buffalo

May 2009: Notice of case transfered to California

August 3, 2009: received RFE letter; sent in evidence 2 weeks later, USCIS confirmed reception

March 03, 2010: Filed form DHS-7001 with CIS Ombudsman, and contacted my local Congresswoman to try to get my case pushed through.

June 5, 2010: Letter from CIS Ombudsman telling me USCIS is not ready for a decision yet. They didn't give me a timeline for when to expect a decision... this is getting worst...

August 2, 2010: Infopass appointment for I-155 stamp in my passport. Agent who helped me is going to get my file from California and process it himself!

August 10, 2010: Email from my Congresswoman's office, USCIS still not ready for a decision, told to wait another 90 days. And email from agent at local office telling me that his request to get my file was denied by California...

To Vegangirl,

AP is only needed if you need to travel abroad during the status adjust period (before conditional green card). It's really a personal choice. We sent everything to the Chicago Lockbox address like everyone else.

The only potential downside is if you apply for AP, EAD and AOS, and the AOS is approved before AP or EAD (which is pretty rare), then you just wasted the $$$ on AP or EAD. However, we won't complain if that happens to us for the obvious reasons.
