My wife is here for almost 2 years now. I am thinking applying for i751 conditional removal. I was just thinking can i not skip this step and directly apply for n400 in 6 month?

You have to file for I751 regardless and then if you want to do naturalization pay for that one as well. So yes you would have to pay for both of them if you want to go that route.

Letting the conditional greencard expire and not applying for I-751 will mean your wife is illegally present in the US.   Your wife cannot naturalize if she is not in legal status.

P.S.  Please stop "thinking" of applying and actually apply, unless your wife no longer desires being in the US.

This is not the way things works.

Follow the rules is our only choice!

Good luck

Your wife MUST file the I-751 to remove the condition on her green card.  She can not skip this step.

You are not paying double for the I-751 and N-400.  You would be paying separate fees for separate things.

No, you can not skip the Removal of Conditions. It is a very hard set condition. Your wife has to do it in order to be eligible to apply for citizenship. If there was a way around it, it woukd be one of the most popular threads on this site.

Also, the fees are not double. They are separate fees for seperate processes. For example, your wife can apply for ROC now and not apply for citizenship until later on if she chooses to. But the ROC has to happen.
