Benefit to sending the I-134 with the I-129F pacakge?

Hey guys,

We are very close to being ready to file our I-129F (woo!). I am a US citizen and have been travelling/abroad for 2+ years so I have to use assets to meet the requirement since my remote teaching income only started a few months ago and won't show as much on my tax return. With the 1:5 ratio, I am still over the minimum with assets alone. We are working with a lawyer who wants to send in the form with the I-129F but I am nervous because it is not the strongest of financial situations, though it meets the requirements.

Just wondering how many have sent their I-134 with the initial I-129F package and what your experience has been? I know it's not required but is there any benefit to doing it this way? Any cons?

Thanks in advance!

No benefit. You won’t win extra points and quite frankly it’s a useless thing to do, I don’t understand why your lawyer is suggesting you send it in with the initial petition.

It's not needed and will probably be tossed out

Fire the attorney.  He/she is already wasting effort and time.

Thank you all SO much for your replies and for confirming what I suspected. I think it's a little late for us to axe the lawyer but a valuable lesson has been learned. 😵

You can fire an attorney at any time.....

All you have to tell them is that you won't be needing their services anymore.

I can see why it would be unnecessary, but I don’t see the harm in sending it either. My situation made it prudent to retain an immigration lawyer, and she sent in my 134 with the K1 package. I would assume it could help streamline the process. Besides, I’d rather go through the hassle of doing as much of the paperwork at once, up front then have to do more later.

We sent the I-134 in with the I-129F because we thought we were supposed to. We did it ourselves and must have missed that part. For my interview we filled out a new one... but the interesting thing was that when I got there and they gathered my documents they said they already had the I-134. They still took the updated stuff, though, since I had it with me.

But in the end all embassies are different and you don't know now how much time will have passed when the interview happens. We sent the I-129F in September 2019 and the interview was in March 2020 so it wasn't that long of a time in between. (And now it looks like I could finally get my visa soon about a year later... Stupid Covid!) But either way it was a miss on our part to send it in initially, and you might very well need a new one for the interview anyways... so... 👀
