Hi everyone,

I'm currently waiting for my interview to be scheduled, and it looks like it might happen sometime towards the end of May. We are planning on making a 2-month international trip to our country of birth starting around the time of the interview, and I was wondering if it would be ok to travel after the interview. We would like to not go through the oath ceremony as it would mean that we will have to wait for our US passport, then renunciate our current passport and get a visa (we can't hold dual citizenship).

So would it be possible to delay the oath ceremony for a couple of months after we complete our interview?

Risky, I'd advise against it. Attending the oath ceremony and getting your naturalization certificate should be your top-most priority. Everything else should be planned around that - like your trip to your native country.

This is what USCIS says:

Quote

If you cannot attend your scheduled naturalization ceremony, return the notice, Form N-445, Notice of Naturalization Oath Ceremony, to your local USCIS office, along with a letter requesting a new date and explaining why you cannot attend the scheduled naturalization ceremony. Failing to appear more than once for your naturalization ceremony may lead to a denial of your application.

My advice, either finish your trip before your interview or delay it till after you get your US passport. Why take unnecessary risks so close to the finish line?

2-3 weeks for the US passport (expedited), a week for renunciation, another few days for e-visa and you can travel with a month after the oath ceremony.
