Tiger Woods suffers multiple leg injuries in single-car accident in Los Angeles

I read a story that said he left a hotel at about 7 am and was in a big hurry.  He got blocked by somebody unloading and was very impatient.  That hotel must be the Trump golf course hotel that is at Hawthorne Blvd and Palos Verdes Drive.

 

He crashed on Hawthorne Blvd on a steep winding downhill section headed in to Lomita / Torrance.  It is very easy to go too fast down that hill.  The road is 3 or 4 lanes wide in some sections, like a freeway.  I'm betting he was going too fast and messing with his phone.  I used to cycle there and I could go 40-50 mph down that hill, and it was quite a thrill.  I think the speed limit is probably 45.  Maybe less.

 

The pic above shows him off the road.  There are no cliffs in that area; I believe that is just a steep grassy hill next to houses.  That is a residential area and Palos Verdes High School is right there.  My sister lives in the area and her sons went to high school there.

seeing the picture of that mangled wreckage made me vomit a little bit just imagining how injured he must have been.

Yeah the leg injuries are pretty serious so they are saying. Sometimes you see a wreck and you wonder how a person lives...

  Tiger isn't known for having the best judgement. Hope he is OK, and thankfully nobody else was hurt.

Time flies.  In my peak riding days while living in the Bay Area, I used to drive down the coast with my trusty Lemond Zurich steel frame bike on top, stay at my sister's, and do rides in the area.  It is a beautiful hilly area overlooking the ocean and there are many riders there, especially on weekends.  That was late 90's until 2003, when I moved to Florida, where I also rode a lot, but no hills!  When I left for the Philippines in 2012, I gave that Lemond to my BIL there in Rancho Palos Verdes, where it has sat ever since.  It is probably a pile of rust now.

 

That hill is very long, wide, with sweeping curves and a center divider.  Not like a mountain road with tight curves.  It is always kept clean too.  I was single then and liked speed.  I would never do that now, with a family.  You see cyclists zooming down it quite often.

 

I watched the sheriff say Tiger hit the center divider, went out of control, over the divider into opposing traffic, then flipping several times before coming to rest as shown above.  No skid marks before hitting the divider, which is why it seems to be distracted driving.

 

I think he might want to consider hiring a driver.  I think he can afford it.

I know which stretch of the road this is. Because we don't have any outlet for too much travelling these days, we drive around the Westside/South Bay a lot for fun or distraction. The PV peninsula is one we do fairly regularly, because the views are great off PCH and Paseo Del Mar. But we have often wandered further inland to Hawthorne Blvd. It's a wider road than the reports have made it sound, and I agree with @seekingthetruth that it's likely Tiger was distracted.

My sister lives on PV Drive about 3 blocks from where Paseo Del Mar veers to the right.  She posts pictures from her evening walks almost everyday.  The flowers and sunsets are extraordinary.  If you haven't done so already, have a coffee at Starbucks at PV Drive and Hawthorne.  The back patio has a fantastic sunset view!  TJ's is right there too.

That certainly is a very nice area for sure. You might not know but near the city hall building there is a old missile bunker there with seismic equipment in it. But the area is really nice for sure. I am glad he didn't roll off the cliff there.

It's remarkable to see where the crash started and where he eventually ended up. I think it's time perhaps he should retire getting behind the wheel, he has more than enough money to get someone to do it for him. He's lucky he did not kill himself or others.

There are a couple of other old missile sites on the PV Peninsula, but they may have all been housed over.  Around 74/75, we used to go party at one site at the very top of the hill, and I know there are houses there now.  I think White's Point, which I think is San Pedro, was also a site.
