no, havent done it and never heard of it, but what is the point? not what is the point of your post but what is the point of having such a card? I dont think its 'required' as Adnan does not have one and has gone back and forth to Morocco no problem, so I just wonder like what are the benefits... Also while looking at the consulate site I was looking at the child registration and the family book thing and its saying it requires a Moroccan or Islamic marriage certificate which again we have neither so it makes me wonder, does Morocco not even recognize my marriage?

thats weird...

Looks like registration at the consulate is required should you need to renew a passport.

aaaah. well then, I guess we better hope his passport is good for a long time :P

or register. But I still think the other part is weird, we can only register our baby if we have a Moroccan or Islamic marriage certificate? Am I reading that correctly?

Edit: OK OK , amazing how reading more can answer those questions... I guess we would have to jump through all those hoops to get the marriage recognized in Morocco and THEN we can register the baby and get the family book. Alrighty then....

Had no idea about any of this!

Just wanted to know other experiences with registering. It seems as though if you need anything (passport, birth certificate, even help with funeral, etc) being registered could be of benefit.

I am trying to figure out if it would be worth registering. What do you think after viewing the site?

We have everything printed out because Hicham needs a new passport. It seems like all we have to do is send in the form with the fee and they send you a new passport and you get registered with the Consulate.

I don't think it's really anything difficult or complicated.

A friend of ours is registered and says it speeds things up quite a bit for passport renewal or any other help they may need from the Morocccan government. We haven't rushed to do it since his passport won't expire for several years, but we will do it. I suppose it's similar to us registering with the State Department when we go overseas, which I did. If something comes up, they already have enough information on file to start helping.

I'm the USC.

hello everyone :luv:

this is my experience with moroccan consulate in regards to registering...YEs you are right every moroccan is required to let the embassay pretty mch know where they live and what there are doing...

I lived in the us for years and never needed the embassay for anything until I was getting married in morocco and so I needed them to notorize my american marriage and divorce decree....that is thier way of verifying the documents (i guess)...they had me send pictures and I believe 15 dollars for the registration to send me this card that reminded me of school card with picture stapled to the folded card and they hand wrote my name age wherr I live and other infos ..it is kind of a stupid i thought they can t even print thier cards...??

this is year 2006 hehehehe

so my point is you don t have a choise as far as registering and getting this card ..when you need the moroccan embassay for something they will have you pay and get registred.

According to your statement, you register when ou need something. I am thinking that maybe we should go ahead and register ahead of time. It may be a good thing just in case. I think it is only $10, so why not.

What about registering your marriage certificate? The Consulate makes it seem as though if it is not registered, it is not a valid marriage in Morocco.

The Moroccan consulate has a traveling office come to Houston last month. My husband took the opportunity to register himself then. The card is a small blue cardstock withhis name and photo and those official government stamps. If you want to renew your passport, get a new National Identiy card etc, you need this card.

My husband's cousin had hhis national ID card, passport ..everythign stolen when someone broke into their home. The consulate was impossible to deal with when trying to get replacements. He came to Houston to personally ta with the consulate and they told him if he had the Moroccan registration card, he could have gotten the new passport in the same day.

We also took our marriage certificate to register us. All they did was put some stamps. I supppose now when we are in Morocco and we have it with us , it will be more easily recognized as official, but they did not do anytign special to have it alcually registerd in with teh government. I suppose that is what the family book is for.

They stamped your marriage certificate?

Yes, with those little stamps they gue on official documents. The marriage must be witnessed by 2 Muslims for them to recognize it.
