Also, I believe the bill would need 60 votes in the Senate. I highly doubt they could get 10 Republicans to vote for the full bill.

I think this is a case of throw everything into the bill and negotiate down to what is acceptable for both sides. There is a lot that I like about the bill, but also a lot that goes a bit too far for me.

If you were looking to negotiate you would not start from here, what is there to negotiate?

With Democrats in control of the House and a Democrat the tie breaking vote in Senate,  there is no reason for it not to pass

But for many illegals that work in the fields picking crops and are migrant workers,  they will have issues like a consistent address and the funds to pay for a green card.  It will still be hard for them to document themselves / along with being afraid to come forward and go thru the process as they have seen others tricked into thinking they could do this (in the past) and when they tried,  they were deported

So,  the bill can pass but it is gonna take more than just this bill to document all illegals

I think it would have to qualify as a budget reconciliation bill to get past the Senate filibuster rule assuming that rule is not changed.

You negotiate downward. This bill is asking for the world... I think they would be happy if they got half of it.

For example, this is doing bare minimum for southern border security... plenty of room to let the republicans ask (and get) more. Also, there's room for the democrats to give up certain items in the bill and still save face.

The question is, can the republicans get, and democrats give up enough that the will all be happy? I doubt it.

Yes, this will be exactly what will happen. You have to start somewhere and then negotiate from there. Same here, I support immigration reform overall but some pieces of this bill are bonkers.

I guess that would be similar to the current adjustment of status process - the system assumes you are eligible (you can get an EAD, get ACA insurance, etc) until you are determined to be ineligible.

Ineligible and inadmissible are totally different though.

Easy way to pass this bill.

1. Get rid of the filibuster.

2. Pass the bill with a simple majority.

Best bill by the best president since President Obama.

At least one Dem senator (Manchin) has been quite explicit about wanting to keep the filibuster, so I don't think it's going to go away in the near future. If it were just him blocking it, there might be a chance, but Sinema also isn't so keen on getting rid of it.

Some people seem butt hurt by this proposal, I am loving it. Joe Biden, you just might make me a Democrat with some of your policies. Just don’t go overboard and open the southern border to be overrun by every wall jumper like you’re planning to do.

This is a good bill, negotiate it down and pass it. No point having 11 million illegals/undocumented in the system when there’s zero prospect of deporting even a quarter of them. Legalize the otherwise law abiding ones and throw the criminals onto the next plane back to whichever native land they came from.

Losing elections should have consequences, ram it down republicans (the racist ones) throats! 😂🤣😂

We'll see what happens there, at some point if Republicans are blocking absolutely everything (which is their MO) I imagine Manchin/Sinema will vote to abolish the filibuster under the pretense that they will be the ones to keep dems in check.

Did not the Des spend 4 years blocking everything.

I ams sure they're aware that thisbworks both ways and that when they are in the minority it will bite them.

Republicans spent 8 years blocking everything by Obama.

If anything, Nancy Pelosi and the Dems single handedly engineered the first Covid-19 bill. Republicans were too busy worshipping their master - you know who. No wonder they lost the election.

...and by the way, if this past election is an indicator of anything, it tells us the country wants to lean heavily LEFT. If I was Joe Biden, I'm removing all the brakes towards a full head-on left dive.

Green New Deal, Immigration Reform, Student Loan forgiveness, Tax reform and everything in between. Go Biden and Harris!

~AOS : 09/11/2014 - 2 YR Green card received!.

~ROC 07/13/2017 - 10 YR Green card received!.

~N-400 : 10/28/2020 - N400 Interview & Approval/Oath Ceremony/US Citizen!

More Importantly, I am a proud Anti-Fascist!
