Hey everyone,

My wife and I were finally scheduled for our interview on Monday, March 15th!

The instructions on the NOA state that a phone interpreter will be necessary for her. However, I feel an in-person interpreter is better because of potential connectivity issues and ability to hear the interpreter better in-person.

Are in-person interpreters not allowed in with us for the interview?

Thanks!

No, due to COVID restrictions, USCIS is only allowing interpreters to work via phone. This is to reduce the number of people inside the buildings and to limit the number of people the officers are in contact with each day.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

Pandemic precautions.  The instructions said it must be by phone.

The instructions provide your current option.

YMMV

Had my interview last week and there was one couple that had an interpreter with them. Was quite funny since there was a misunderstanding and they've been told that only two people can go to the interview so the interpreter and applicant left the USC spouse waiting outside the building. Took some time to find her and then all three did the interview.

But yea the instructions are clear in the notice. No in person interpreter only over the phone.
