This day was never supposed to come.  When guest hosts took his place starting the third full week in a row, I feared that the day was soon.

What people who didn't understand Rush didn't (and perhaps still don't) understand is that he was not leading an audience of mind-numbed robots; rather, he said what other people were already thinking.  He put these thoughts into words.  He absolutely shredded issues.  He did phenomenally effective charitable work.  He also said that those who didn't understand him or where he was coming from would understand a lot better if they listened every day for 4 to 6 weeks.  Perhaps the critics in this thread have done so.

The critics in this thread remember a lot of his words:

- Liberals (among other restrictions) should have their speech controlled.

- The NBA should be renamed the TBA for "Thug Basketball Association" and that they should be called gangs instead of teams.

- The NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips.

- Slavery had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark.

- James Earl Ray, the coward who assassinated Martin Luther King, deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor.

- Unkskilled labor should be done by "stupid and unskilled Mexicans."

- Feminism was established so unattractive women could have access to mainstream society.

- When a gay person turns his back on you, it's not an insult, it's an invitation.
- He had a segment called "AIDS Update" where he mocked people who died or were dying of AIDS. It was accompanied by a celebratory jingle.

This is a short list, because the vitriol and filth he espoused during his 30 years of racism, homophobia, misogyny, hate, and outright propaganda could fill pages and pages, and I have no desire to spend any more time thinking of this man. I feel badly for his family, I'm sure they're suffering tonight, and as someone who has lost loved ones I know what kind of slog they're in for. I wish them well. But as I mentioned in an earlier post, I spare not an iota of empathy for this man.

Some of those are spot on

Some are sarcasm and humor

Some I dont believe he said or are taken wildly out of context.  The slave remark for example

I lined out the ones that I couldn't directly verify. That's my bad for not verifying them before posting.

But here's a few more I uncovered while verifying, just in case anyone thinks it somehow exonerates him:

- “Take that bone out of your nose and call me back.” - To an African American call-in to his radio show

- “Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?”

- Called Barrack Obama "halfrican American" and "Barack the Magic Negro."

As for some of them being sarcasm and humor... I had an uncle when I was growing up that used to tell racist jokes, and then insist he wasn't racist, he was just being funny. Yeah, no. If you're saying ugly and intolerant things to be funny, that's not humor, it's a dog whistle to your audience.

As for "wildly out of context," again: if any part of your context involves saying any one of these quotes, you may be taken out of context, but in the context of your entire shtick and the message you're beaming out to your listeners, you are exactly in-context.

So true.  The Left hated Rush because he exposed their hatred and intolerance.

It's a nice, heart-felt send-off, and hopefully Limbaugh's family reads it and takes some comfort from it. It's unfortunate that the author didn't once call out the racist and hate-filled vitriol Limbaugh was known more for than being "a man who was quite private and indeed shy." But then the truth was never a strong suit when it came to Limbaugh.

You do know that there are a lot of people on the Left that are full of bile and hate right?  Hatred does not know political boundaries.

It is interesting how quickly the racist card is used.  Do you have any first hand knowledge of Rush Limbaugh being a racist?  You posted a bunch of quotes from Limbaugh, some you admit you cannot confirm (interestingly you still felt the need to include them), but you did not include any context to them.  I did not agree with all the things he said, but he did give a voice to conservatives that was sorely lacking in the media (even more so today).  He has also apologized for some of the things he did say which I guess only works if one is a Democrat former KKK member.

You're kidding right? Did you see the quotes I posted? Go on Youtube, it's full of actual broadcasts. Do a Google search. If you can't find them, you're not looking.

And you're right, he did apologize for some of the things he said, but then he just kept on saying them in different ways. I'll take your apology at face value the first time. But when you just keep saying the same things different ways, then your apology is really just a means to keeping sponsors from pulling their ads.

This is really just proto-Trumpism. You bend over backwards to defend this guy and make excuses for his over 30 year record of racism and hatred, but never give someone on the other side of your beliefs that same overwhelming courtesy. The man literally told a black woman to "take that bone out of your nose and call me back." That's not out of context, that's not a joke, that's not sarcasm. And he didn't apologize for it, he just admitted to "feeling guilty" about it. Please.

Quote

interestingly you still felt the need to include them

I explained in my next post that I lined them out because I couldn't verify them. I kept them there instead of outright deleting them in order to avoid somebody calling foul on an edit. When I make a mistake, I own up to it and I don't try to cover it up. It was a dumb mistake, I'm usually better than that. It does not, however, invalidate the facts.

There are. Bill Maher comes to mind. I can't stand him. If some lefty shows up after he passes, defending him, you and I can stand shoulder to shoulder calling it out.
