about 5 (runs on gasoline)

but wait, there's more!  i also have 4 5 gallon gas cans and a 2.5 gallon.........

as my heat comes from propane, all i need is enough to run the blower on the heater.  so alternating run times of an hour on, 2 hours off, so i could run for several days on 22.5 gallons.

It's good that you're prepared. More people should be. (including myself... I've put off buying a new generator for over five years since my last one bought the farm. I need to get on that.)

Many people can't. People who live in apartments. Elderly or infirm, and others. Hopefully their friends, family, and neighbors are able to help them. So if you're an elected official, you may not be able to get the power back on for them. But that elected official can maybe take some time to step away from the keyboard, or at least show some compassion to their constituents.

I think the way he posted his ham fisted facebook rant was a terrible way to get this message out. But I think it does lead to a good point. Communities should be free to build their own microgrids. Then you don't have to rely on federal or state governments to maintain and upgrade the power needs.

They should have thought of that before they became elderly, infirmed, disabled, poor, or not able to build a back up AC power source.

And you didn't get your generator hooked up to propane why? At 3 lbs an hour 1000 lbs propane would go a long ways to not being dependent.

as the generator is used only when there are power outtages (save the jokes, tbone) and i don't see a reason to have it sit outside, it would have to be disconnected

and then reconnected for use.  not a thing i'd like to be doing with propane.....
as my propane tank is 500 gallons - i decided it is best (and probably cheaper) to go the gasoline route - and as i have about 3 acres to mow anyways, i do have a use for 20+ gallons of gas a year.

Okay, I won't ask you why you are mowing 3 acres and not bailing hay or golfing.

too many trees to bale - and i'd rather not have a farmer run around in my back yard with a baler (probably not even worth their time)
i tried golfing when i was younger - hit a turtle sunning itself in a pond, almost hit a bird flying across the fairway, and hit a rabbit with the golf ball and killed it.

almost hit my grandfather with the golf ball once too.  i decided it was not my thing.

Yeah I didn't inherit the golf gene either, did you roast or braise the rabbit?
