Entering Dominican Republic with expired gc and I-751 extension

Hi! Has anyone traveled to the Dominican Republic while under the 18 month extension period after filing i-175 to remove conditions. My green card is expiring a month before my expected travel date for a wedding and the consulate in the US does not issue tourist visas. I did call and explain the situation and was told I should be fine to enter with the expired gc and letter but has anyone successfully gone through it with a non DR passport from a country that would otherwise require a visa?

The USA does not issue visas to enter Dominican Republic.

Your expired green card along with the extension letter is in effect a green card for entry back into the USA. No additional action is needed by you to return to the United States.

You will need to contact the Domican Republic consulate for visa requirements from someone from your home country to visit there.

Correct, the US doesn't directly issue visas to enter the DR, but OP's proof of US LPR status is enough to enter the DR: http://consuladord.com/contenidos.aspx?cid=82&lang=ES "All nationals of countries with a valid visa or residence card from the European Union, the United States of America, Canada or Great Britain, can enter the national territory of the Dominican Republic with the simple presentation of the Tourist Card (Decree 691-07 dated December 18, 2007)."

Thanks for the link! Hopefully the letter is accepted along with the card as proof of US LPR. I know there shouldn’t be any issue re-entering the US but wasn’t sure if it is recognized there.

Have you traveled to DR with the extension letter?

I travelled with my recent renewed Indian passport (no stamps in it, my old one had many including ones from DR), my expired GC and 24-month extension later to the DR in December / over NYE. During the arrival immigration process, they immigration officer carefully read the letter multiple times and stared at me a couple of times. Maybe added 5 min more to the process versus having a US passport or non-expired green card.

When leaving the DR, I had a similar experience. The annoying part was I had to show the card and the letter to every single Delta employee that I came across - twice during check in and twice during the boarding process.
