Shutting down oil and gas pipelines is such a good idea.

Blackouts in Texas as Big Freeze Upends Energy Markets

Frozen Turbines

A mix of freezing temperatures and precipitation is paralyzing wind farms in Texas. That would be devastating for power plants with contracts to provide a certain amount of electricity at specific times if they need to instead buy it on the spot market to meet their obligations. At the moment, that power is exceedingly expensive.

“When wind-turbine blades get covered with ice, they need to be shut down,” said Joshua Rhodes, a research associate who focuses on energy at The University of Texas at Austin.

The grid is Texas has relatively little connection with the rest of the country, making it an island when it comes to supplies.

If this was regular issue there are deicing solutions, obviously involves chemicals. Hopefully they have sufficient storage.

Don't they have to capture all the deicing fluid at airports so as to minimize the environmental exposure?

Hyperbole aside, the existing Keystone pipeline runs all the way to Houston and can carry >500000 barrels per day and is currently being expanded.

Is it hyperbole that the Biden Global Warming elitist are trying to end the use of petroleum for electricity production and transportation?  This does show the limitations of some of the "greener" forms of electricity production.  The story does not mention solar, but I imagine solar panels do not do very much when they are coated with ice.

Not sure how they do it, maybe they are heated?

I know they have used helicopters

I assume where this is a common issue it is built in. I remember helping some people in what looked a brand new Texas licensed F150 fully loaded truck stuck in snow dig out, could not work out what they could not drive out, tires looked ok, 2WD, did not know they were available in 2WD.

Hyperbole is the part where you said "shutting down oil and gas pipelines". They haven't shut down any existing pipelines.

Texas wasn't prepared for a freeze. No big surprise, and nothing really to do with oil and gas pipelines.

So you are saying Old Corrupt Joe has not promised to shut down oil and gas production within the US?

Can't Texas take responsibility for their own failures?  We hit -10 yesterday and we aren't doing this kind of rubbish. It wasn't AOC that decided the Texas energy industry should be stupid.

i wasn't aware colorado had more windmills than texas.........

Not really sure where you got that idea. I never said we have more. Ours still work when the weather gets cold. You can plan for that. People shouldn't really blame AOC for their own cortex failures.

apparently that's not true..........

Update 4 p.m.: Mountain Parks Electric reports the affected wind turbines are now fully operational after being frozen earlier in the day.

With the turbines now running at full capacity, the risk of a power outage is highly reduced.

The affected wind turbines were located in Wyoming and Colorado.

I did a little digging on this and apparently they are using hot water for deicing, so this tweet is slightly misleading, but they do need oil to run the oil burners to heat up the water which takes about 7 hours for 44 cubic meters of the dihydrogen monoxide.
